The Beginning

Gennady Golovkin was born in Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union in April 8, 1982. He began boxing at just eight years old. His first boxing coach was Victor Dmitriev. His major success began in 2003 when he won a gold medal at the World Championships in the middleweight division. He then represented Kazakhstan in the 2004 Summer Olympics and won a middleweight silver medal.

In 2010, he won his first major world championship, the WBA interim middleweight title. In 2014, he then earned the status of WBA Super champion. He has had many other wins, and holds the highest knockout-to-win ratio in the middleweight championship history, which is 89.7%
