From College Practice Rooms to Worldwide Tours
The band got its start in 1985 when several students at the Berklee College of Music got together to jam out to Rush and Iron Maiden covers. The musicians dropped out of college to pursue music under the name Majesty, touring local venues in New York City and selling cassettes of their demo tape. The demos helped cement their popularity in the progressive metal scene, and in 1988, under the new name Dream Theater, the band signed with a label. Dream Theater released their debut album in 1989. With the addition of Kevin LaBrie as their lead vocalist and the success of their 1992 album, Images and Words, the band started to build a worldwide fan base. Dream Theater has toured with other metal greats like Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and Yes. All the members are recognized as being outstanding artists, receiving awards and landing on lists for their instrumental prowess.
2019 Tour
Dream Theater is continuing on with their 30 year career by going on another tour. The Distance Over Time Tour- Celebrating 20 years of Scenes From a Memory began in Louisville, KY on September 26th. Fans were ready to hear the entire album of Scenes From a Memory as well as songs from Distance Over Time. This extensive set was worth the wait for fans, as they got to enjoy almost three hours of performance from this band alone.
