A History of Dionne Warwick
Dionne Warwick started singing at an early age. She was a member of a few singing groups during her early years before she branched out on her own. In the early 1960s, she signed with Scepter Records and released her first solo single titled “Don’t Make Me Over.” She also released two singles immediately after this one and charted her first top 10 hit. She was able to withstand the force of the British Invasion during the 1960s, continuing to chart hits. By 1965, she was officially on the map, with Time magazine doing a cover article on her work up until that point. By the early 1970s, she was a bonified star. She released “I Say a Little Prayer,” which is one of her most recognizable songs and is still played today. She would go on to have multiple additional top hits, such as “That’s What Friends are For,” and has been listed as one of the most iconic entertainment artists of all time.
