Knock Out Matches
The Dell Technologies Championship consists of a series of knock out match play events. The tournament was originally established in 1999 and held at the end of February. After changing the timing several times, it was settled that the tournament would be held at the end of March every year. The tournament is one of four that is sponsored by the World Golf Championships, and it is also the only tournament within the WGC that is played as a knock out and not a stroke by stroke game.
How it Works
The top 64 players in the sport are seeded based on the Official World Golf Ranking, from there they are grouped into sixteen groups of four with the winners going on to the next round. The single elimination bracket breaks down the group even more before the top players advance to the quarter finals and then eventually the semi finals and championship. The winner of the event not only walks away with bragging rights, but they also get a hefty cash prize as well as the Walter Hagen Cup.
2019 Tournament
The 2019 Dell Technologies Championship Tournament was held from March 27 to March 31, 2019 at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. The tournament saw some of the biggest names in golf competing for the title, including defending champions Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson. Other notable golfers at the event included Tiger Woods, Brandt Snedeker, Aaron Wise, and Dustin Johnson.
