City Girls is a rap duo from Miami, Florida, consisting of Yung Miami (Caresha Romeka Brownlee) and JT (Jatavia Shakara Johnson). The two met in middle school and have been best friends ever since. Their group name refers to where they are from, two of the roughest neighborhoods inMiami. City Girls first gained attention when sang on Drake's hit “In My Feelings”. Career

City Girls signed with the label Quality Control Music and immediately became one of the most popular artists on the Billboard charts. The duo recorded their debut studio track in 2017 and it became a hit after Yung Miami began promoting it on social media and asking DJs to play it in area nightclubs. The track also featured a sample by Khia, a prominent Florida rapper. In August of 2017, JT was arrested and charged with aggravated identity theft. She was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison. She began her prison term in July of 2018. While JT was incarcerated, Yung Miami continued to promote the group's music, and it began to take off. In 2018, the single went to number five on the Billboard 200 and topped Billboard's R&B/Hip-hop chart. In May of 2018, City Girls released their debut studio album, Period, it reached number 16 on Heatseekers Albums that same month. It also ranked as one of the best hip hop albums of 2018 according to Rolling Stone. Their second album, released in November of 2018, called Girl Code, featured Cardi B, Lil Baby, and Jacquees. In August of 2018, City Girls released a documentary called Point Blank Period. Girl Code entered the Billboard 200 at number 63, and their single “Twerk” from that album reached number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
