Bringing back big band
Growing up, Brian Setzer was into jazz music, eventually moving towards rock, punk, and rockabilly. After forming the Stray Cats, he and the band moved to the UK where they recorded their debut album. After their sophomore album failed to garner the same success in the UK, they returned to the States and released Built for Speed. The Stray Cats officially broke up in 1984, though they still reunite from time to time. Brian Setzer went on to pursue a solo career, releasing his first album, The Knife Feels Like Justice, in 1986. In 1990 he formed the Brian Setzer Orchestra, a big band that skyrocketed to fame with their Grammy Award-winning cover of "Jump, Jive an' Wail" off the album The Dirty Boogie. That record won a second Grammy with the single "Sleep Walk." The album went on to hit No. 9 on the charts. Over the decades he's been influential in helping revive older genres, from rockabilly to swing, gaining fame everywhere from the States to Japan.
