The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl this year will be taking place at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia on December 15th. The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl was name after a Yale college athlete who was known for creating a bond between religion and athletics.
The Stagg Bowl is one of the two small college regional championships that were created in 1969. The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl was created for small colleges in the West. The Knute Rockne Bowl was created for the small colleges in the East. These bowls became the championship games in 1973 for smaller schools competing in Division III. Division III was implemented by the NCAA in 1973.
Before the bowl game was played at Salem Civic Center it was held at Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phoenix City, Alabama almost every year up until 1989.
Past Games
On December 16, 2016 Mary Hardin-Baylor and Wisconsin-Oshkosh played against each other in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Mary Hardin-Baylor beat out Wisconsin-Oshkosh 10 to 7.
On December 18, 2015 Mount Union-Baylor beat out St. Thomas (MN) in the second highest score ever in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Mount Union-Baylor won 49 -35. The only team ever to score more points was Wisconsin-Whitewater when they beat out Mount Union 52-14 in 2013.
