Notable Moment - Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys
Saved from an embarrassing loss
Between 1984 and 1989, the Falcons were a pretty average team. However, the fans got to see a brief ray of hope in 1986 when the Falcons started the season strong with consecutive blowouts against the Cardinals and the Saints. In week three, the Falcons traveled to Dallas to take on the undefeated Cowboys. On September 21, 1986, at the Texas Stadium, what followed was an epic battle between the two rivals that featured seven lead changes.
With less than sixty seconds to go to set up the Falcons for the go-ahead field goal, Floyd Dixon was hit by a miraculous bomb by David Archer. As the final seconds of the game unfolded, Bobby Butler was able to chase down Hill and push him out of bounds inside the Falcons’ 15-yard line. This helped him seal the win and prevent the most embarrassing ending for the Falcons. The Falcons won the game 37-35.
