The Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards rivalry has all the necessary components of a classic dust-up.
Born of tough playoff battles and clashing personalities, this emerging rivalry is as good as it gets. The rivalry became a compelling spectacle since the Wizards eliminated the Bulls from the playoffs in the 2014 season. And both the fans and the players have been quite straightforward about their dislike for the other team.
As with any other rivalry, these two teams have also shared some interesting moments over the years. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Notable Aspects - Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards
Joakim Noah vs. Nene Hilario - This superstar duo has added quite a lot of fuel to the rivalry between the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. Chicago Bulls’ star, Noah, is a competitive player. Nene Hilario, on the other hand, is a true impact player for the Washington Wizards. On court, these two seem to be each other’s biggest enemies.
In the 2014 NBA Playoffs, it was Nene who dominated Noah in Game 1, even though Joakim was the one expected to continue his domination. Nene came off the bench after returning from a two month layoff due to injury and took everyone by surprise in a game where Joakim Noah was expected to be the game-changer. Nene kept his upper hand, scoring 24 points along with 8 rebounds on 11-17 shooting from the field.
The Butler-Nene Head Butt – Friday, April 25, 2014. At the Verizon Center in the opening round of the NBA Playoff series, the Washington Wizards power forward Nene head-butted the Chicago Bulls’ swingman Jimmy Butler and grabbed the back of his neck. For this, Nene received an ejection from the Friday night game and Butler was assessed a technical foul. Talking about the incident in 2015, Nene told reporters, I don’t want to talk about Chicago, you know I hate them. The incident has generated quite a bit of animosity between the two teams and their fans over the years and still continues to be a notable moment in the rivalry.
