The Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox are both former World Series champions and the animosity between the two has increased over the last decade and a half or so. The Angels and the Red Sox came up against each other for the first time on April 15, 1961 but the rivalry between these two sides developed in the mid 2000s. Between 2004 and 2009, the Angels and the Red Sox met each other in the postseason on four occasions and that run is what in earnest laid the foundations of this rivalry.

The Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox have had some classic moments over the years. Here are a few that encapsulate what this rivalry is all about

Game 3: 2004 ALDS- The Boston Red Sox headed into Game 3 at Fenway Park on October 8, 2004, already 2-0 up in the series. The Red Sox were leading 6-1 in the fifth innings and it looked as if the game was as good as over. Darin Erstad made it 6-2 by virtue of forcing a run. Vladimir Guerrero, with the bases loaded, smashed a grand slam to make it 6-6. The Red Sox were well and truly rattled. The game went to the 10th inning and David Ortiz then hit a walk-off home run to clinch the series for the Red Sox 6-8.

Game 3:2009 ALDS-The Los Angeles Angels went to Fenway Park, on October 11, 2009, once again for the ALDS but this time they were leading 2-0 in the series. J.D. Drew hit a two run HR in the fifth to put the Red Sox 5-1 in the lead. In the sixth innings, Angels hit a HR to make the score 5-2. In the eighth innings, the Angels hit another two home runs but the Red Sox hit one of their own too to take the score to 6-4 in the favor of the Red Sox.
