Golden Boot Era

In 1992, when Arkansas joined the SEC, LSU and Arkansas had only played each other multiple times, but with periodic breaks in the action. Beginning in 1996, the winner of the game received a 175lb Golden Boot trophy. The trophy is a little over 4 feet tall and is molded out of 24-karat gold. The statue itself resembles the outline of the states of Arkansas and Louisiana, resembling a boot. The game itself is important in that it usually dictates the winner of the SEC Western division, with one of the two playing in the SEC Championship game. From 1996 to 2008, the game was played a day after Thanksgiving.
