About Santana
Santana formed in 1966 in San Francisco and started out as a five-member band. They signed their first record deal in 1969 with Columbia Records and released their debut album Santana months later. Their manager at the time, Bill Graham, was instrumental in the execution of the Woodstock Music Festival. As a condition of him helping with the festival he requested that Santana be able to perform at the festival. A move that would become the pedestal for the band in becoming international sensations. After the success of their first three albums died down, the band went on a seven-year hiatus, where they continued to perform but they did not release any new music. The late 90s saw a revitalization of the band, with a collaboration, “Smooth” with Rob Thomas sending them back to the spotlight. Today Santana is one of the best-selling groups of all time, and they have also won a record breaking six Grammy Awards in one night!
