About Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson was born on May 16th, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. Growing up as the youngest of ten siblings, all of whom were musically gifted, paved a path for Jackson in the entertainment industry. As a young child, five of her brothers began the band called the Jackson 5. The group quickly became an international sensation with her brother Michael captivating the nation. After the group had signed a record deal with Motown Records in 1969, the family relocated to Los Angeles allowing for the children to be closer to the entertainment capital of the world. As she was growing up Janet wanted to become a lawyer, but after she was heard recording herself in the music studio plans for her future career drastically changed. When she was only seven years old she took the stage for the first time at MGM Casino in Las Vegas. By the age of sixteen she had starred in several television shows and had been signed to a record label, releasing her debut album Janet Jackson not long after. In 1986 Janet released her second album Control, which skyrocketed her to fame and allowed her to step out of the shadows her older brothers had casted over her. With singles “What Have You Done for Me Lately”, “Nasty”, and “Control” Janet had captivated the attention of the world. In 2019 Janet was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and today she remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
