Don’t look to close!
The young man at the desk was very polite. This property is in prime position in Lygon Street. BUT…. The place needs a good clean, on the surface it looks clean but don’t look too close. The door to our room needed a good wipe down, entering the room your senses are offended by the smell of stale cigarette smoke. The shower head wouldn’t stay up and the top of it was filthy. The kitchen bench had a chunk missing out of it, definitely should not pass health inspection. The balcony was dirty and needed a good sweep. The hallway carpet needed a good vacuum and tiles a good mop. Such a shame that this Hotel has not or is not maintained, as it has great potential. And just needs a good deep clean.

I read the reviews after booking and was preparing for the worst. What I found was a great, quiet stay that was centrally located, easy to get in and out of, with all the features I needed. The people at the front desk were helpful and friendly, the location was sensational, and I found my apartment was super good value for the price. I had no issue with noise, no weird people popping in my room, no problems with the shower, found my room clean, didn't face any of the issues others had described. TBH, what bothered me most about my stay is listening to the way some of the older Australians spoke to people at reception and the way they carried on. It was embarrassing at times to hear people berating a solid 3 to 3.5 star hotel for not being more like some upper echelon hotel, and hearing people having orders barked at them. And the casual racism I saw and heard was really gross, especially when people tried to get me to join in on their eyerolls and carry on in the elevator. The hotel has been around a while, so it's not fancy or super modern. But it's incredibly reasonably priced, the staff work hard, and the location is sensational. You can't expect a balcony overlooking Lygon street to be quiet, nor can you choose to have a week in Melbourne at this price while also having the fanciest joint in town. As a traveler, it sometimes comes down to picking and choosing what you want from the experience, and not being a jerk about stuff when a little patience would do.

Hidden Gem in Carlton with everything you need. Kichen, utensils, desk TV, spacious, balcony, great staff and car park (limited spots). Bathroom looked newly renovated. Restaurant next door can deliver meals. Will definitely go back

A self contained well resourced room with a stove top as well as microwave (not that we used either), and located on the second floor looking through street trees on busy Lygon St. Limited on site parking, if you get there early.

In heart of Lygon st so great location. Front room which is a bit noisy but balcony option to Lygon st makes it a good trade-off. Stayed twice now and would again.

I had a Lygon Street facing room. The room itself is big and has a kitchen, and everything you need. But the noise from Lygon street is loud. Plus there is a restaurant/bar undernearth that was playing loud live music until 11:30 pm on a Monday night... So, not ideal if youre after an early nights sleep. I normally dont mind noise, but this was a little much for even me. The reception area is pretty small and underwhelming. The property itself is getting pretty tired. The staff were very friendly, and the location is great if you like lots of eating choices. You can partk across the road near the park for free from 6:30pm until 7:30 am. Otherwise parking options are expensive everywhere nearbye. The property was fine. Nothing terrible, just not particularly amazing either.
