Flights to Nassau usually land at one of two local airports; Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS)and North Eleuthera Airport (ELH). The furthest away is ELH, which is located in North Eleuthera, approximately 50 miles away from the city of Nassau. International Nassau flights tend to land at Lynden Pindling, formerly known as Nassau International Airport. This is based around 8 miles from the capital city of Nassau and is a hub for Bahamas Air. This is still a relatively small airport and there are no bus services available for the journey into Nassau. Many hotels do provide their own shuttle services from the airport though, and there is the option of taking a taxi which costs upwards of $15. You can hire boats and take ferries to get between the islands.
Nassau Weather
When booking flights to Nassau, it is important to bear in mind which season you will be arriving in this part of the world. Nassau has what is typically known as a tropical monsoon climate. This means that while most months are usually very warm, there are certain times of the year when the country is prone to sudden and prolonged rainfall. June is usually the wettest month and March is the driest—average temperatures throughout the year are around 75 degrees. For cheap Nassau flights, it is best to avoid the winter season which runs from December to April.
Getting Around Nassau
Nassau is the largest city in the Bahamas and there are many different forms of transport available to take visitors around the city. Visitors from nearby America might avoid driving because driving on the left-hand side may take some getting used to. Jitneys, which are the local buses, are also readily available such as the number 10 bus which runs from Downtown Nassau to Cable Beach at a cost of $1.25 for adults (exact change necessary). There is also the Horse Drawn Surrey which provides visitors with a pleasant tour of the city at a cost of $20 for twenty minutes.
Nassau Attractions
Flights to Nassau land just outside of the capital city and getting to the heart of the action is just a short taxi ride away. Here you will find an island steeped in history and preserved eighteenth century forts from the colonial era, sheltered harbors, and cathedrals.
- Blue Lagoon Island—it is possible to get up close and personal with the friendly dolphins.
