What you can expect

Don a wetsuit and hop in the seat of a comfortable kayak to explore the wildlife-rich waters of Port Orford with an experienced paddling guide. Look for diving cormorants, black oyster catchers, and harbor seals as you move from hidden coves to wave-washed rock formations, and scan the horizon for migrating whales.

Join your paddling guide at the boat launch in Port Orford, where you can get fitted for a wetsuit and familiarize yourself with the day's gear. Your kayak will be waiting for you on the beach by the waters edge. Hop in your boat, taking a few moments to practice your kayaking technique before you head out into deeper water.

Follow your guide around waving kelp beds, under rocky archways, and into hidden coves home to resident sea bird populations, like cormorants, black oyster catchers, and common murre. Along the way, you might even catch sight of harbor seals sunning themselves on rocky shores or the telltale spouts of migrating gray whales as they move up and down the Pacific coastline.
