Meet your group at Dana Point Harbor, at the location next to Baby Beach and OC Sailing & Events Center. For your convenience, there’s free parking by your meeting spot on the harbor. Your departure time may vary by the date you choose, so please take note the service provider will contact you after booking to confirm available times for the date you’ve picked. Meet at the Dolphin Deck about 30 to 45 minutes before the time your 2.5-hour whale and dolphin watching Eco-safari begins. Board one of three catamarans—either Manute’a, DolphinSafari, or Lily. Your boat takes about 10 minutes or less to make its way out of the harbor onto the open water. At this point, keep your eyes open for sea lions, marine birds, and other creatures, as this is a great place to spot them. As your captain takes you further out, your group will spot dolphins, whales, and sometimes sharks. Some whales you might see on your journey include Blue Whales, Gray Whales, Humpback Whales, Fin Whales, Minke Whales, and occasionally Orcas (Killer Whales). Also, keep in mind, there are five species of wild dolphins that might cross your path, too. As you cruise, enjoy commentary from a naturalist who fills you in on the sea creatures, their lifestyles, their natural habitats, and what’s being done to protect them. If you’d like, you can head down to the underwater viewing pods on your catamaran to catch sight of the ocean life from an underwater vantage point.

And Mrs. Capt. Dave’s legendary, delicious Triple Fudge Brownies are served complimentary!

Get up-close and personal with YEAR ROUND majestic whales and breathtaking dolphins aboard smaller, intimate boats. Experience these amazing animals as they were meant to be seen – in their natural habitat, wild and free! For over 20 years Captain Dave’s eco-friendly whale watching safaris have created memorable and educational excursions for the entire family.

November through May gray whales are seen making their annual migration from their feeding grounds near the Arctic to the mating and calving lagoons near Mexico, and back again. In between May and October the largest known animal to have ever lived on earth, the giant blue whale is encountered. Anytime throughout the year fin whales, minke whales, and humpback whales delight spectators. Rare whales that could be seen at any time include orcas (killer whales), Bryde’s whales, sei whales, sperm whales, pilot whales, and false killer whales.

Come for the whales, stay for the dolphins.” Several species of wild dolphins are seen throughout the year, including mega-pods that can number up to 10,000 dolphins! Dana Point is home to the unforgettable dolphin stampede - hundreds, sometimes thousands of dolphins porpoising out of the water together at high speed.

Assorted species of fish can be seen, including sharks such as great whites, hammerheads, makos, rare basking sharks, are more. Sea lions and seals, pelagic birds, and much more await you!

Every day is a new discovery; every trip offers a different surprise. Join us for an absolutely unforgettable adventure!
