Arena History
The Capital One Arena was originally built in 1997 and was opened for business under the name MCI Center. In 2006 it was renamed as the Verizon Center and more recently it has been known as the Capital One Arena. The arena is located in Chinatown inside of Washington, D.C. and it sits on top of the Washington Metro. Since its creation it has been considered to be one of the driving forces that has helped rebuild the Chinatown neighborhood. Mainly known as a sporting arena, it is the home for many teams including the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Georgetown Hoyas, and Washington Valor. The arena also hosts several concerts, shows and other sporting events throughout the year.
