Fierce Queens Of The Court
The UConn women's basketball program got its start in 1974, but it was almost a decade before the team saw any traction. However, with the hiring of Geno Auriemma as head coach, UConn has soared to success. The Huskies have been the NCAA Tournament champion a dozen times over, including a four-year reign from 2013 to 2016. In fact, their record-breaking 111-game winning-streak is one of the most legendary in all of college basketball, ending only with a dramatic overtime loss to Mississippi State in the 2017 NCAA Final Four. With Auriemma and the talent he draws to the team, UConn seems unstoppable. The Huskies were on their usual path to victory last year, when they met Notre Dame in the Final Four to get knocked out by one basket. The Huskies' rivalry with the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers is one of the few women's sports rivalries infamous around the country – their debut game in 1995 sold out the arena and was televised on ESPN, so the whole nation was watching as Tennessee fell to UConn. The bitterness between fans and players has been stoked over the decades, making cheap UConn-Tennessee tickets a hot item!
UConn Huskies Basketball 2019
Powerhouse players like Katie Lou Samuelson, Napheesa Collier, and Crystal Dangerfield are running the court with their amazing chemistry and technical skills. Only a handful of games remain until the Women's AAC Tournament! UConn games usually draw a large, raucous crowd, and the arena is often in danger of selling out.
