Reviving the Old School Groove
The band got its start in Boston in 2004, when the members found each other at the New England Conservatory of Music. After winning the Jazz award in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, the band self-recorded two albums. Their self-titled record came out in 2010, blazing the trail for their breakthrough success. Another key factor in their rise in popularity has been their extensive touring and connection with their audiences. Lake Street Dive concerts manage to feel intimate no matter the venue, the band feeding off the audience's enthusiasm to craft unique shows. They began appearing on talk shows and built a fervent fanbase through their videos, especially their cheeky Halloween videos. The band's cover of Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" has garnered over 5 million views on YouTube. Blending everything from jazz to disco pop, folk to Motown, Lake Street Dive's music is fresh and powerful.
