History
The Kansas State Wildcats volleyball began competing in 1974 and for their early years they saw moderate success, appearing in tournaments and finishing with over a .500 winning percentage. Throughout the 1980’s and the early 1990’s the Wildcats struggled tremendously to gain their footing in their conference, barely capable of winning a single game. In 1994 the team hired head coach Jim Moore, who began to turn the team around. Slowly but surely the team began to register more wins and they were eventually able to appear in the NCAA tournament for the first time in nearly 20 years in 1996. Following the retirement of Jim Moore in 1997 the team hired Jim McLaughlin as the new head coach. His coaching period from 1997-2001 is often described as a period of triumph for the Wildcats, as they were able to make five consecutive tournament appearances and they also got their furthest into the tournament under his lead. After years of struggle and failure followed by glimpses of hope, today the Kansas State Wildcats are one of the most successful teams in the Big 12 Conference. Under new head coach Suzie Fritz the team has been able to reach the NCAA tournament over twelve times, and they have one of the highest winning percentages among teams in their conference.
