About Gasparilla Bowl
The Gasprilla Bowl is an annual college football bowl game that takes place in Tampa, FL at Raymond James Stadium The game was originally known as the Tropicana Bowl and was played at Tropicana Field but was later moved to Tampa and renamed. The name Gasparilla is a nod to Jose Gasper, a mythical pirate from the Tampa Bay area.
Gasparilla Bowl History
The first three Gasparilla Bowl games featured teams from Conference USA and the Big East. The Big East would undergo a transformation and become the American Athletic Conference after 2013, at which point the ACC began playing in the game. As of 2020 the bowl could potentially feature teams from eight different conferences. The UCF Knights have managed to appear in the Gasparilla Bowl five times and winning three of them. Right behind them is Marshall who has been to four and won three.
