About BYU Cougars Football
The BYU Cougars football team is the college football program representing Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. Begining collegiate football competition in 1922, Cougars have won 23 conference championships and one national championship in 1984. Cougars has competed in several different athletic conferences during its history, but since July 1, 2011, they have competed as an Independent. On September 10, 2021, the Big 12 Conference unanimously accepted BYU’s application to the conference. BYU will begin Big 12 play in the 2023-24 season. The team plays home games at the Lavell Edwards Stadium, named after head coach LaVell Edwards who won 19 conference championships, seven bowl games, and one national championship while coaching at BYU. Cougars' all the time rival is no other than the instate team Utah State Aggies. BYU Cougars and Utah State have play no less than 90 games against each other, with the result of BYU winning 21 of the last played 26 games!
