Born in Burbank, Bonnie Raitt grew up playing guitar as a hobby. It wasn't until college, when she befriended blues promoter Dick Waterman and relocated with him to Philadelphia that music became the driving force in her life. However, in the 1980s her popularity declined. But in 1989, her album Nick of Time brought a firestorm of long-awaited success. She swept up several Grammy Awards in the following decade and was listed in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" list, all culminating in her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
