History

Wake Forest University first established their football team in 1988. The team played their first ever collegiate game against the North Carolina Tar Heels, that would be the only game the team would play that year. From early on the results of the Demon Deacons football team were pretty dismal. In 1946 under the leadership of Peahead Walker the Demon Deacons appeared in their first bowl game, which also happened to be the inaugural Gator Bowl against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Many years passed before the Demon Deacons would see success again, not winning their first conference title until 1970 under the leadership of Cal Stoll. Thirty-six years would go by before they would be crowned the champion of their conference for the second time in 2006.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have had a history plagued with defeat, only winning three conference titles throughout their history. Although they have never been pegged as a big hitting team, the Demon Deacons has produced several stars in the National Football League with players in top name teams including, the New York Giants, the Denver Broncos, and the Seattle Seahawks. They play their home games at BB&T Field at Groves Stadium in the town of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Wake Forest plays within the Atlantic Division within the Atlantic Coast Conference in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision.

Rivals

Wake Forest University is part of one of the most dynamic groups of rivalries in all collegiate football. Known as “Tobacco Road” or the Big Four, they are among the list of four North Carolina based schools that regularly compete against each other within their conference. The other three teams include the North Carolina Tar Heels, the North Carolina State Wolfpack, and the Duke Blue Devils.
