About Madison Ryann Ward
Madison Ryann Ward is a 6-foot-tall, 23-year-old American former college volleyball star turned pop star from Lawton, Oklahoma. As a singer, she goes by Madison Ryann. Once, Ryann was signing covers of Aretha Franklin songs in her college cafeteria, and today, she is signed with a major label—American Recordings. While Ryann enjoyed singing as a kid, it was her love of sports that propelled her. She wanted to be a great athlete. However, during her fifth year of eligibility at the University of Oklahoma, she suffered an injury and began to write. One day, she sang a few seconds of Aretha Franklin's 'Chain of Fools' for some freshmen athletes and they posted it to Twitter. The clip went viral overnight.
Early Career and Mainstream Success
After she became a viral sensation, Ryann began posting a series called, “Ward Wednesdays” on Twitter. These were posts were covers of classic songs like Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine." After graduating from college in 2017, she moved to Nashville to try her hand at songwriting. The first night she was in Nashville, John Hopkins, a member of the Zac Brown Brand, contacted her on Instagram. She met with the band and soon cut backing vocals for "Trying to Drive" on the band’s Welcome Home album. Ryann then toured with them for the next few months. Ryann spent that year in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, writing songs. She was contacted by her manager, who told her Rick Rubin wanted to meet with her regarding David Letterman’s Netflix show. After that, things moved quickly. Her song “Mirror” was used, and the track caught on quickly. Ward’s debut album is being produced by American Recordings/Republic Records but does not have a release date.
