History of The Stars
The Astros were established in 1962, when they were known as the Houston Colt .45s. A few years later, the Colt .45s changed their name to the Astros, to show support for Houston's involvement with the US space program. The Astros were part of one of the biggest blockbuster trades in MLB history, unfortunately getting the worse end of the deal. In 1971, the Astros traded Joe Morgan, Denis Menke, Jack Billingham, Cesar Geronimo and Ed Armbrister to the Cincinnati Reds for Lee May, Tommy Helms, and Jimmy Stewart. Fans believed Gerenal Manager Spec Richardson had something up his sleeve, but results weren't great for quite some time. Originally members of the National League, the Astros moved to the American League in 2013. Prior to 2017 the Astros have only been to one World Series but lost to the Chicago White Sox. After losing to the White Sox, the Astros fell on tough times, but loyal fans knew all along that the Astros would establish themselves as a power once again! Their time came in 2017 when they shocked many with their World Series Championship.
Minute Maid Park
Minute Maid Park has been the home field of the Astros since 2000. The stadium was a replacement for the Astrodome, which was built in 1965. Minute Maid Park is well known for being a hitter-friendly stadium, contrary to the Astrodome, which was known to be the most pitching-friendly stadium in the MLB. Good luck hitting a ball out in center field, because the deep center wall is a whopping 436 feet! Outfielders on away teams fear the 90-foot-wide incline in center field known as Tal's Hill.
Houston & The St. Louis Cardinals
The rivalry between the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals is known to many. It has slowed down as of recent years but remains as fresh as it started to true Astros fans. from 1996-2006, The Astros or the Cardinals took the NL Central title almost every year! Houston vs. St. Louis games are one of the most intense in terms of fan support, so only go if you’re ready to cheer your heart out!
The Houston Astros are planning and strategizing in order to relive their glory in 2017. What better way to support them than heading down to Minute Maid Park with friends and family? Get your cheap tickets to the Houston Astros 2024 season today!
First World Series Title
In 2017, the Houston Astros faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 113th edition of the World Series. The series went all the way to Game 7 at Dodger Stadium and the Astros finished Game 7 with 5 runs to the Dodger’s single run. Many fans attended the game, and many watched. Each game had an average attendance around 49,000. For TV this World Series was the 3rd highest rated behind the 2016 and 2009 World Series.
2019 Astros Post Season
After winning their first World Series title in 2017, the Houston Astros were hungry to add another title to their belt! Clinching the American League Western Division Title secured the Astros spot in the 2019 MLB Playoffs. Unfortunately, the Astros lost out on being world champions after a tough 7-game series with the Washington Nationals.
