History
The Detroit Pistons were originally founded in 1941 as the Fort Wayne Pistons, and then moved to Detroit in 1958 which sparked the beginning of the legacy for one of the National Basketball Association’s most notorious franchises. The Pistons currently make their home at the Little Caesars Arena. After struggling during the 1960s and 1970s despite a roster of talented players including Jimmy Walker and Bob Lanier, the Pistons began to make their mark as a force to be reckoned with during the 1980s. The signing of Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, and Vinnie Johnson led the pistons into a successful period better known as the Bad Boys. The team’s brutal style of play involved high physical contact that featured what some considered dirty tactics. However, their toughness led to considerable success and two championships in 1989 and 1990. More recently, the Pistons obtained star players Ben and Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups, which lead to their NBA Championship in 2004.
