Their Start

The band first got together in the 1990s as a cover band called "Village Idiots." When the band turned to writing their own music, they changed their name to Nickelback. The name came in homage of band member Mike Kroeger's day job at Starbucks — where he would frequently tell customers, "Here's your nickel band" when handing them their change. Released in 2000, their second album, "The State," is what propelled them to commercial success. Their musical style is intense, but with lyrics that show emotional reflection and sometimes desperation, as in such chart-topping smash hits as "Photograph," "How U Remind Me," "If Today Was Your Last Day," and "Far Away." Most of the original member lineup remains the same, except for a rotating cast of drummers.
