Early Life
Born to Catholic parents in Bay City, Michigan on Aug.16, 1958, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone was the third of six children. Raised in the Detroit suburb of Pontiac, Michigan, Madonna's upbringing was strict and highly religious. Her mother especially was devoted to Catholicism, and church-going was mandatory. Tragedy struck 5-year-old Madonna when her mother passed away of breast cancer at the young age of 30. Madonna was subsequently raised by her father and stepmother. She has since credited her childhood for the development of the persona we see today - fearless, unapologetic and keen to break the rules.
Throughout high school, Madonna balanced academic excellence - she was a straight A student - with a growing interest in dance and music. In 1976, Madonna secured a scholarship to the renowned dance program at the University of Michigan, but it was a visit to New York City that propelled her forward into the limelight and kicked off her phenomenally successful music career. After completing a six-week course with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Madonna dropped out of college after her dance instructor urged her to focus on her career. Although risky at the time, the move certainly proved to be a success. After spending time dancing, working and touring with a band, the Breakfast Club, Madonna landed her big solo break in 1981.
Becoming the Queen of Pop
Madonna's career exploded in the 1980s, with a series of hit singles including "Holiday," "Lucky Star" and "Borderline," but it was the album Like a Virgin, released in 1984 and named after the beloved single of the same name, that brought Madonna to global super-star status. The album sold over 10 million copies and was followed a couple of years later by the equally popular release, "Like a Prayer." Her meteoric rise to fame meant that screaming fans became desperate to get their hands on Madonna tickets. She was a hot commodity and her notoriety was further consolidated by her controversial behavior, on and off stage. Her music videos were provocative and her personal life - she was dating actor Sean Penn - was tumultuous. Also, her video for "Like a Prayer" was controversial for its depiction of religious and sexual themes. The controversy she stirred during this time did little to dampen her stardom, however.
Since the 1980s, Madonna has been the master of reinvention, consistently producing groundbreaking music and shows that reflect the musical zeitgeist of the time. To support the release of her numerous albums, including Celebration, MDMAand Rebel Heart, Madonna has toured extensively across the world, bringing action-packed shows to a multitude of global cities. Cheap Madonna tickets are therefore hard to come by but are by no means impossible to find. Her latest tour, "Rebel Heart," promoted her album of the same name, which includes hits such as "Ghost town" and "B**ch I'm Madonna." Her global success has been truly unprecedented and in 2008, she was named the world's wealthiest musician by Forbes.
Madame X Tour
In June of 2019, Madonna released her fourteenth studio album entitled Madame X. Along with the announcement of new music also came the announcement of a string of intimate theater shows. Her tour included stops in only seven cities, but multiple resident-like performances in each. After some initial set back, the tour kicked off on September 17th in New York at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. For seventeen performances Madonna stayed in the Big Apple before she moved on to perform her next leg of the tour in Chicago beginning in October at the Chicago Theatre. From there she stopped for performances in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, and Miami Beach. Upon finishing her North American tour in December of 2019, she went international with performances in Lisbon, London, and finishing off in Paris in March of 2020. She chose to perform within small theatre venues to ensure an intimate setting for her dearest fans, allowing them to get up close and personal with her!
