King of the Atlanta Hip Hop Scene
Growing up in Atlanta, Jay Wayne Jenkins had a difficult childhood. Despite an unstable family life and struggles with narcotics, Jenkins was driven by his passion for music. In 2001 he independently released Thuggin' Under the Influence (T.U.I.) as Lil J. It wasn't long before the music industry picked up on this budding talent, and in 2004 he joined both Bad Boy Records and Boyz n da Hood. Now dubbed Young Jeezy, the rising artist released his major label debut, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, in 2005. The album rang in at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. He founded the United Streets Dopeboyz of America (U.S.D.A.), which released Cold Summer in 2007. Other artists have been eager to collaborate, and superstars like Future, Usher, Ludacris, and T.I. have all been featured on his albums. He's continued to prolifically roll out new music, racking up Grammy nominations and BET awards along the way.
