Good location
Nice old hotel in a good location. Breakfast on the rooftop was the highlight with a lovely breeze to start the day. A few touches in the rooms needed to be worked on (for example my bath wasnt set against the wall so the floor kept getting soaked when we showered) but overall a nice place for a good price.

The staff, especially the receptionists, were absolutely wonderful! They were all helpful, polite, and friendly. The food was delicious too, with many options. My favorite part was the rooftop dining experience and the rooms were so tastefully decorated. Thank you all for a great experience in Zanzibar!

The hotel room stunk and had black mold all over in the bathroom and closet. They had no drinking water available to drink or buy. The showers were rusted and scarey to use not to mention the towels that were a dirty brown and still had lipstick on them from previous guests. We got the worst treatment. We came all the way from CA and would not recommend this hotel. The only nice thing I can say is the rooftop restaurant has very a nice view.

A taste of old Zanzibar
The hotel is well located in Stonetown with easy walks to restaurants , museums and the night food market. We did have one problem at check in , with the staff saying they could not honour the price we had paid on our booking , and initially we had to pay extra as other hotels nearby were full. After contacting Hotels.com , who quickly contacted the hotel , we were given a refund - so thanks Hotels.com for your quick response ! The staff were great and offered sincere apologies for the mixup. A very enjoyable stay in a palatial room with Huge King bed . Breakfast was reasonable and taken on the rooftop , but there is no restaurant or pool . All in all - great value and an enjoyable stay.

They arranged for a driver and were able to accommodate a very late check in. Breakfast was OK, not a huge selection. AC in our one room was stuck on 30° which made for a hot sleep. No elevator means carrying bags up a lot of stairs. Staff was wonderful though.

TERRIBLE. DO NOT STAY!!!!!
This place was absolutely BRUTAL! It was so bad that this is the first time I have taken the time to leave a review on any room. For starters, we waited OVER 3 hours to get a salad at the hotel restaurant. Not only did it never come, but 3 of the other people at my table also did not receive there dinner. On top of that, one of us went back to help in the kitchen and it was apparently very dirty and disorganized. Problem 2: We had booked 2 nights at this hotel and on the second day they kicked us out of our room and made us wait 5 hours to get a new room that looked EXACTLY the same!!!! Problem 3: The first day when we ate at the restaurant I got the more wicked food poisoning. I was up all night puking from the food I had ate there. The hotel is also very old and rooms are nothing great. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you are looking for a terrible vacation! Staff not very helpful or nice to top it all off.

Good value for what you pay. The hotel doesn't have any amenities besides a rooftop restaurant and it also lacks ambience but otherwise i would recommend it for the price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good overall.

Well placed for sight seeing
TausiPalace is a grand looking hotel with spectacular rooms. Despite the lack of a car park getting there with luggage was not a problem as taxi drivers and porters are always willing to assist. The hotel is in a maze of narrow streets but well placed for sight seeing in Stone Town. The staff are friendly and efficient, the bedroom very grand, though the bathroom a bit dated. Abundant hot water provided and a good maid service. The view from the restaurant on the top floor is spectacular. We had a delicious lunch in the restaurant and decided to have an evening meal in there too. This was disappointing in that there was little or no white wine available ! A lovely restaurant but we were the only couple using it. Good breakfast served promptly.

Interesting palace
The interiors of the hotel are traditionally Zanzibar style decor. The inside of the hotel is good, the roof to restaurant has good views. The views from the room is actually not there the windows either open bin to the very narrow streets or into somebody’s back yard🙂. The service was good and the stall were polite and efficient. The place though is located very close to all the heritage sites which can be reached within 5 mins of walking.

The Tausi Palace Hotel was out of available rooms because the rain damaged some of them. So I was transferred to another hotel of the same owner, Zanzibar Hotel, but the room that I had booked and paid was not available. I got a single room - even if I paid for a twin bedroom - and I didn't get reimbursed. The day after they changed the room - twice - because of problems to the toilet and shower. The last morning, they arranged the room before the check-out time and arranged some of our stuff that was not yet in our luggage. Incredible! Apart from this unhappy experience mainly caused by bad service, the Zanzibar Hotel is nice and the rooms in the typical Swahili style. It is located in the historical center of Stonetown, it is easy to move by foot, visit the town and reach the Forodhani gardens for the unmissable seafood in the evening. There is also a tour agency with a very kind guy who can arrange trips and tours at cheap prices for you. Breakfast ok but not particularly special. At the end of this experience, I think I won't come back to one of these hotels, but if you are looking for a relatively cheap and typical room in the heart of Stonetown, it could be a possible option for you!

Characterful hotel in good location for us.
We enjoyed staying at Tausi Palace hotel and found it comfortable and conveniently situated for visiting Stone town and organising trips on Zanzibar. We had a twin bedded room with a TV room - which we did not use much and a balcony. We had a leak in the bathroom from the shower fitting but it was soon fixed. They seem to have upgraded the bathrooms by putting in new baths but keeping the old fittings which are very worn. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and there was a good choice for a moderate hotel. The restaurant was not good for evening meals as many items on the menu were not available and even what they managed to produce was not of a very high standard nor was it good value.
