This property was once the stable. It is at the end of the main house (dating back to Tudor times) which is occupied by the owners. It is on the edge of the village, about ½ mile from the main road, a very rural setting.
Coxley is in the centre of Somerset, 20 – 25 miles from Bristol, Bath, Frome, Yeovil, Taunton and Weston-super-Mare, all of which are major tourist or cultural attractions. Being close to the Mendip Hills it is an excellent centre for walking, riding, cycling, golf…
Nearby are:
Wells (3 miles) – the smallest cathedral city in the country. The Cathedral is considered by many to be the most beautiful of all England’s cathedrals. For a truly unforgettable experience, go to weekday Evensong and hear one of the best choirs in the world in a tradition which is older than the Cathedral itself. Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to be a Christian. Ask us for details.
The Bishop’s Palace – fabulous mediaeval buildings and beautiful gardens containing the springs, or ‘wells’, after which the city is named, and which feed the moat surrounding the Palace, where the famous swans are, which ring a bell when they want to be fed.
Vicars’ Close – the oldest (c700 years) continuously-occupied street in Europe. Built to house the men of the Cathedral Choir who still live there today.
Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the year – a huge range of locally produced artisan and ‘ordinary’ foods, as well as books, antiques, clothes etc.
Glastonbury (4 miles) – famous for: the Tor (perfect view of it from here); the Abbey, a ruin since the time of Henry VIII; and the Festival (most years in June). This is a perfect place to stay for that if you don’t fancy camping and mud!
Street (6 miles) – where the famous Clarks Village is – factory outlets of over 90 stores at discount prices.
Also nearby: Wookey Hole Caves, Cheddar Gorge, Longleat Safari Park, National Trust properties - Stourhead, Montacute, Dyrham Park, Lytes Cary, Tyntesfield.
Very convenient for Millfield and Wells Cathedral Schools.
NB: We are next to a working dairy farm, so some noise from machinery etc must be expected. Flies can be a nuisance in hot weather.
Make yourself comfortable in this cottage, which features a fireplace. There's a private balcony. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a DVD player is provided for your entertainment.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Lovely annexe, beautiful views across to Glastonbury Tor. Only slight annoyance was the milking machine starting at 6 in the morning (but not really a problem, easily ignored). Close to many tourist attractions.

Cosy base in Somerset
In the countryside with beautiful views across the fields to Glastonbury Tor. Close to Wells and other places we wanted to visit. Jenny and Richard met us on arrival and showed us round and told us a bit about the area. They were very friendly and helpful and we had everything we needed for self catering. Next door to a dairy farm but apart from occasional mooing and the gentle hum of the milking parlour it was fine and to be expected. Thank you, we enjoyed our stay. the cttage had everything we needed.

Lovely friendly and welcoming owners. Sadly, could not keep the windows open or use the balcony because of the flies, smell and noise of the farm. Very good kitchen facilities but no freezer, which limits food shopping and no way to make ice for drinks. Head height in bedroom and bathroom a problem for anyone tall and sofa uncomfortable to relax on if you want to watch TV. Convenient for driving to Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar etc.

Wonderful stay, again
We returned to stay at the Old Stables again for a few days, coupled with a visit to Glastonbury and Wells. Again, everything was perfect and we love the location, providing excellent access to both towns, with a wonderful rural setting. The space is warm and cosy, with everything being thoughtfully provided for a self-catering stay. We will certainly be back!

An authentic and romantic taste of Somerset
Richard and Jennifer are highly convivial hosts and have clearly put a great deal of effort into making sure their charming property offers the best possible stay. The level of fit and finish in the stables is beyond reproach and the view from the balcony was truly stunning day and night. The dairy farm adjacent lent a sense of authenticity and integrity to the property and we thoroughly enjoyed observing the daily routine of country life. Staying in the height of summer the property was superbly ventilated and beautifully cool of an evening. We would seriously consider returning in the colder months to make use of the woodburner, I imagine the place would take on an alternative aspect of a warm and cozy bolt hole to return to after a day in the chill air. All in all we had a magical and romantic stay and would not hesitate to recommend the property to any couples. This coupled with the extremely reasonable pricing makes this place an absolute Jewel, a genuine idyl which we shall never forget.

Lovely hospitality from the owners, they were there to greet us when we arrived. Jenny and Richard were helpful and very friendly. Wow what a view … we had the pleasure in watching the cows being put to field for the 1st time since the winter and what a pleasure that was . Also had the pleasure seeing 3 Carvels after being born. The cottage has plenary off room and has everything needed for cooking and also if you wanted to take a picnic for your day out. Will defiantly book again.

Perfect property in an amazing location
My partner and I absolutely loved our stay here, in the countryside right next to a farm. We were fortunate enough to see some newly born calves! The house itself is wonderful and we definitely will be back. The location, between Wells and Glastonbury, and so close to the Mendips is perfect. There are plenty of places to visit and eat out nearby. Try heading to the Burcott Inn for incredible food. Definitely don't miss out visiting Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury Tor. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We can't wait to come back.

Cosiest cottage with wonderful view and ideal for visiting Wells and Glastonbury
Lovely welcome from the owners just as Storm Arwen was starting. With the wood burner started we soon had a very cosy cottage with wonderful views of Glastonbury Tor. All was fitted to a high quality and we had everything we could possibly need. Comfy bed, nice bath and shower and lovely kitchen. We will return in the lighter seasons to enjoy it more.

A lovely place
What a lovely place! Everything was just perfect for our long weekend break and a great place to escape from the busy life. The hosts , Jenny and Richard, were lovely people and made us feel most welcome, we instantly felt at home in their lovely holiday cottage. The Old Stable was exceptionally clean with good quality furnishing and fixtures throughout. Very comfortable with a peaceful and calming feel to the place. The view from the upstairs living room and adjoining balcony was exceptional and we enjoyed sitting outside in the early evening light, taking in the views and watching Glastonbury Tor disappear as the daylight dwindled. We also enjoyed watching the cows lazily making their way along the farm track to be miked. The neighbouring farm was surprisingly quiet and milking time was a significant feature towards making this location a unique and interesting place to stay. The location was in easy reach of Wells, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and local attractions but we particularly enjoyed the immediate walks from the garden gate. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and easy to walk. You could even take a lovely two and half mile walk along footpaths that took you straight into Wells. Queen’s Sedge Moor was great for bird watching. Little Egrets were dotted about on the marshy fields and we even saw two Great White Egrets and possibly a Marsh Harrier. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Stable and felt sad to leave. We hope to go back again next year.
