The location was great for accessing our conference at the Hilton, and the room rate was more reasonable than others nearby. I wanted to love it, but there were a few too many negatives. Of course, it’s a historic building so some things are to be expected, like small rooms, and it was clean and well-maintained. The self-serve cheese & wine in the evening was a nice touch.
Our check in process was disappointing because of how poorly the person working treated the guests. Not welcoming at all, abrupt, and impolite. We thought maybe it was just us, but then witnessed her treat another couple rudely as well. While we were there the weather was hot, and their AC was not working properly. The first night was miserable. We asked the staff and the apologized & offered a fan. That helped for the second night, but it was still unpleasant. It was working better by the 3rd night, but by then we were pretty over it. The same staff member that helped us at checkin was working a subsequent night and we witnessed her again being quite rude to several guests. She definitely escalated the situation rather than diffused it. Another staff member (maybe a manager) stepped in and smoothed things over. Overall, I would recommend the hotel for its location close to DuPont Circle, but beyond that I would stay somewhere else next time I’m in DC.
