This is a gem. The hotel is beautifully decorated, with incredible views of the city/mountains and the sea. Loved the indoor spa pool, breakfast, and the super warm, friendly staff always ready to help with a dinner recommendation, calling a cab, or with a story about a local sight. I'm an early riser and avid coffee drinker, and the amazing crew at Astoreca made sure to bring me coffee to my room, every morning. It was divine. Highly recommend. Can't wait to be back!

Not Great for Price
Service was TERRIBLE! The front desk guy was sooooo rude. He would purposely make you wait at gate. Massage was not great. No head hole so my neck hurt more after.
This is an amazing hotel. It is an historical landmark building that formerly was an art college. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The included breakfast was one of the best I have ever seen. The one downside was the lack of air conditioning, so the bedroom was rather warm at night.
All together a great place to stay, located in the center of the historic part of a great city.
An unusual and attractive building in a good location in the tourist area. Comfortable and spacious room. Nice terrace.
A bit overpriced compared to hotels we stayed in elsewhere.
Had a very nice stay at this hotel in the heart of the old town (UNESCO World Heritage site). Nicely located for the restaurants (away from the flat port area). Nicely kept hotel.
Only two things let this place down. 1) The quality of breakfast was no where near as good as other hotels in Chile which was strange considering the level this hotel is pitched at. 2). On our last night we hoped to have a couple of drinks on the large hotel balcony overlooking the port only to find the area had all been reserved for a corporate function. (they had most rooms that night so it squeezed the other 5 rooms out)
Very happy with choice. Staff very frienly, excellent food great boffet breakfast. Excellent location. Unhappy with bed base jutting out with sharp edges creating risk of leg injury
Beautiful hotel, very well located, with excellent infraestructure. However the customer service was very bad, especially from the hotel manager. I was charged with an abusive exchange rate (dollar/peso) of $680/US$ vs the official $605/US$. When asked if it was possible then to pay in dollars, they didnt let me , arguing that if I was Chilean (local), it was not possible. In general also, the treat towards me was not pollite at all.
Staff fairly disinterested.
Restaurant is very good, however.
Needs some more TLC

Bad Value Proposition and Poor Service
This hotel is no longer among the Relais Chateau offerings for good reason. Management claims to resolve problems that guests have pointed out repeatedly, but fails to do so. Among the reasons for our disappointing stay, were the hotel's failure to honor our reservation. We had booked two junior suites and instead received a room downgrade on one of the rooms to a "premium room" which was a far cry from the junior suite. No apology from the hotel was forthcoming, not to mention any sort of compensation for the inconvenience of having to split our family up on two different floors. Service was extremely poor in the restaurant, and haphazard at the front desk. Management has determined that price gouging for international travelers is acceptable by charging an exchange rate of the Chilean peso to the US dollar that is 25% higher than the market exchange rate. Breakfast is only served from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, so if you check out earlier, you do not get to have breakfast. Porters are only available beginning at 9:30 am to 10:00 am, resulting in guests having to handle their own luggage if they check out earlier. There is no air conditioning at the hotel, which is problematic on a sunny summer day and particularly on the 3rd floor where we were placed after our room reservation was downgraded. The wifi was very spotty and different passwords were required in different areas of the hotel. We will certainly never return to this hotel.
We had a very nice stay here. Our only complaint was the construction going on outside our room. Once that is done, I think it will be great. The front desk help (especially Eduardo) was great. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Room was spacious and clean, and the bedding was great. The recommendations we got for places to go for dinner were great. All in all, a very nice place to stay.
In the beginning everything was awful! Unfortunately, the city is in the middle of a renovation and the hotel street is closed. I had to leave the car and ask for help inside the hotel. When I told them they need to inform Hotels.com about the terrible conditions of the area, they told me I should park my car in their garage and pay 12.000 chillean pesos!!!!
On the other hand, the manager was very polite and tried to solve the problems.
The hotel is interesting, but is not a "relais & chateau". The heated pool was cold, the ofurô was cold and dirty. Only the sauna was ok.

- Disappointing Room preparation

Not a hotel boutique experience, I expected more.
An outstanding hotel in the coolest part of the magnificent city of Valparaiso. Everything understated but efficient. Our only slight grievance was with the manner in which breakfast was served - that is sometimes it was not buffet style and this just made the process seem a little "complicated". The building itself, formidable and the staff throughout the hotel, helpful and sophisticated. We loved it.
a little confusion checking out as where requested to pay higher rate than agreed on Expedia.
Clerk corrected the error after showing our Expedia booking form.
Close to Plaza Sotomayor, the main plaza of Valparaiso by using the ascensor. Restaurant at the hotel was very good but only one suggestion - there should be an English translation on the menu. If we did not understand Spanish, we would have been completely lost. Staff were outstanding and very accommodating. Amenities were great and the room comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great location, mediocre room
For the price, I had expected a five star experience, but it was far from that. The hotel is an old palace. It does not contain period furniture (except one unused room), but the decor is minimalist modern. It doesn't quite work. It seems unfinished and incomplete. The building did sport a spiffy new paint job so it looked terrific from the outside. The room was small. A glass panel above the door allowed light from the corridor to enter the room making sleep difficult. The facility does not have air conditioning. The breakfast was adequate, but not great. The people were wonderful, warm and friendly.
Its a good hotel in a nice place with very good condition ( in general, clean, hot water, Preston of water, blanquette etc)
If you go by car the street are very narrows is not easy drive a car there and the parking lot is a little bit far of the hotel.
We only stayed 1 night in this recently opened 5* boutique hotel, but left wishing we had stayed 2 or 3. Even though I later found out that the hotel had only been running for a few months, our whole experience was faultless. Check-in was quick and offered us an upgrade (after we requested). The staff was extremely friendly and interested in interacting with guests. Rooms (and the hotel throughout) were extremely well decorated. The Spa was the cherry on top of the cake after a long day walking on the hilly streets of Valparaiso. Breakfast was amazing.
