Things to do

Tower Hill Nature Reserve

To see an arial drone video of Tower Hill House and the surrounding nature reserve, please click on the link on the homepage.

Though you can drive through, there is direct access to the reserve from our garden. The Tower Hill Nature Reserve is nestled inside an extinct volcano and is a beautiful haven for all sorts of wildlife.

Tower Hill is also great for bushwalking and picnics (BBQs and facilities provided). Guided day or night tours can be booked at the Tower Hill Natural History Centre (T ), which is open daily.

Tower Hill was created some 25,000 years ago in a violent volcanic eruption. The force of the blast created a funnel shaped crater, which was later filled by a lake and island.

On a walk you could well see possums, echidnas, cape barren geese and wedge-tailed eagles (Australia's largest bird of prey). Keen twitchers might also spot chestnut teal, musk duck and spoonbills from the boardwalks and bird hide. Eagles often soar at dusk.

There are numerous activities and events throughout the year in both Port Fairy and nearby Warrnambool - Including the well known Port Fairy Folk Festival... boat trips, beach walks, golf, shopping, restaurants and great food!
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, which features a fireplace and an LCD TV. There's a private balcony or patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a DVD player is provided for your entertainment. Enjoy recreation amenities such as a spa tub or take in the view from a garden.
Guests will find features like wireless internet access and onsite parking.

The house was spacious, comfortable and clean with everything we needed. Located in a convenient position about halfway between Warrnambool and Port Fairy. Also very good for our pooch as the back deck can be closed off with a gate to prevent your pet running off. We were made very welcome by Richard on arrival who gave us lots of good local info re things to see, places to eat and walks to do. A great base for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday!

Gorgeous relaxing house in a truly gorgeous place.
The house is lovely and comfortable and the slow combustion heater really kept us warm and relaxed. The kitchen is fabulous with everything we needed. We did a lot of cooking, eating and drinking wine. The views are absolutely gorgeous and walking over the back fence to the crater is breathtaking. So close to Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Koroit so easy to get anything you need. Also very close to a beautiful beach which, as Richard the host says, if you see one person, it’s a busy day. We went on a Worn Gundidj tour of Tower Hill which I highly recommend. Our guide Brett was warm, friendly and knowledgeable about the volcano and the surrounds and it was a privilege to get a First Nations perspective on the history. We didn’t see or hear much of Richard while we were there, but had some great chats with him on the phone. Knows the area like the back of his hand and is very happy to share tips, particularly good eateries, beach directions, shops etc etc. Loved our time here. Thanks Richard!

What a beautiful and cozy place! We had an absolutely lovely time staying here! Everything was perfect! The fireplace was wonderful and the home was well equipped with everything we could possibly need. The coffee machine was an added bonus. Wonderful bed, pillows and towels and the hairdryer was a bonus as I accidentally left mine at our last stop in Broken Hill! Thanks for a great stay in a beautiful part of the world.

Comfortable and private with a beautiful view
We really enjoyed our stay at Tower Hill House. It is such a lovely, cosy place to stay. We stayed in the middle of winter and the wood heater did a fabulous job keeping the house lovely and warm all day and night. The bed was really comfy. The views of the ocean from the lounge room windows are spectacular. We also had kangaroos and emus wander past while we were taking in the scenery. We took our labradors with us. The house is set up with a secure yard at the back so we could safely leave them if we needed to. The kitchen was nicely set up and Richard, the host, provided all the basics, such as oil, salt and pepper, cooking utensils etc so you can go straight in and cook. This house was comfy, cosy and in a really special country location on the side of Tower Hill. It is 15 minute drive one way to Warrnambool and 15 minute drive the other way to Port Fairy. A 5 minute drive to Killarney Beach, which was so easily accessible and such a lovely beach to walk on with the dogs. We really enjoyed the photography and artwork that decorates the walls. I highly recommend Tower Hill House. We hope to visit again soon.

Recharged by nature and hospitality
The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen easy to navigate and the views incredible. An easy to use wood heater (but there are wall heaters too) was very cosy and inviting. Richard is an affable host and great story teller! A pair of emus grazed in the small paddock in front of the house and at night a mob of roos was in another. Walking out the back gate led along part of the Tower Hill crater to meet with roos and wallabies close-up. The downside of this fabulous location is you need to drive to get to the beach and shops but we found it was lovely to be away from crowds.

Lovely peaceful getaway
We had a great week-long stay at Tower Hill House. The cottage was cosy but roomy, with everything we needed for our stay. Good fenced off area for the dog out the back of the house (although we did wish it was out the front so that we could sit with the dog and enjoy the view. If you had a dog that didn’t run off to explore this would be ok). The beach a few minutes away was absolutely stunning. Pretty much deserted and a beautiful place for morning walks. Dog owners beware that this is an on lead dog beach all year round. We ended up driving to Warrnambool every day for the pup to run off lead. Richard was a great host and provided lots of useful info and great communication prior to our stay. The location was a little further out of town then we would usually like but it was a peaceful getaway that we enjoyed.
