The staff were pleasant, the room was nice and spacious, breakfast was ok, if you wanted poached eggs which i normally like be prepared to pay £3 for the privilege
We stayed here for a family event it was just perfect for location large car park clean and comfortable with air conditioning I thought the cost for breakfast was a little high though but other than that a great stay
Pros: Laura on reception was helpful and friendly. Excellent parking and EV charging. The front garden is very pretty. A bus stops just up the road that goes into Newbury if you want to leave the car behind.
Cons: Freeview TV not working - either no signal or screen pixelated. No BBC channels even it it had worked. Expected to eat dinner off a coffee table in the bar after booking a table in the restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was set up for a wedding the next day so was not being used. We cancelled the booking and had a really nice meal at the Berkshire Arms just down the road. The flush on the toilet worked but was very stiff. It was not clear which way to turn on the tap on the wash basin and so I kept dowsing myself and the entire room with water! The room was very hot. The air con seemed to work on one setting only, so was too strong. Turning it down had no effect so we turned it off.
We have stayed here before but now there seems to be fewer staff (poor waitress in duty at breakfast on Sunday was rushed off her feet and there were dirty dishes left on tables, empty fruit option bowls, long waits for hot food to be refilled etc) and, generally, an air of the place just getting by. We came to attend the Battle Proms at Highclere Castle as this hotel is not far away and so we were out most of the stay but we will look for another hotel next year.
Slightly dirty room, not sure if it was old sick or a split drink on the floor by my bed, but that was nice to find. Letting workmen start sawing, hammering and grinding outside my window at 7:30am was also a great addition to my stay. Thanks.
Ok hotel for close to aldermaston with EV chargers, easy parking , down side was room very hot and waited a hour for dinner.
On the Room was uncomfortable as no aircon and was very hot even with a fan and windows open.
We stayed in the double room which was compact ,clean and comfortable and fine for a night or two with minimal luggage. Any longer, it would have been too cosy and any more luggage, you would not have room to store it. The staff were helpful.
A disturbed nights sleep as there was a function on at the hotel and guests at this function were stood outside my ground floor room partying and smoking until after 1am even though the hotel assured me my room was away from the function area. In the morning i had to sit on a low chair and table to eat my breakfast even the the dining room was set up and empty as it was reserved for the afore mentioned party none of whom had turned by the time i was finished and left. The experience was so bad I left that morning even though I had booked a second night there and lost my money on that one. The staff i dealt with didnt appear to care or offer any way to mitigate the poor service ie move room or have a room service breakfast. I have stayed here multiple times in the past and the service has steadily deteriorated over that time. Needless to stay this will be my last stay there.
the overall stay was satisfactory, however there was no hot water for a shower or shave on the last day. I had to boil a kettle to have a shave. No apology or recompense was offered by staff.

Poor but staff friendly and helpful
We came to go to a family funeral and were really pleased to have our room upgraded. However the broken blind which looked mouldy, the mouse trap visible to customers behind the coffee machine at breakfast, the overpriced coffee from a machine when a proper coffee machine was turned on and just not used, did not add any further enjoyment to this.
The food was good and the staff really tried to be helpful and were really polite, but the stench in the corridor from what we were told was having the carpet cleaned added to the overall experience.
I then had a look at floor map in the room in case of a fire and even the layout of our room was wrong, which is a bit worrying.
The staff really tried but not being able to contact Mercure on their website easily has led to this being put on here which isn't fair to the demotivated staff who tried their best.
