The Space:
When visiting the Big Bend, it helps to have a quiet, comfortable, and convenient home base. Pat O’s Place is exactly that. Pat built his Terlingua home as a place to relax and enjoy. He would be proud to now share his place with you.

Pat O’s Place is a quiet adobe home, lovingly decorated and well furnished, just outside of the world famous Terlingua Ghost Town. It is just remote enough to be quiet and peaceful, but close enough to walk to the Ghost Town. The seclusion of the secure adobe home and the tranquility of the spacious porch with views of the Chisos Mountains provide the quiet needed to forget about the pressures and stresses of daily life. The usual noise and distractions are silenced by the surrounding desert. This is a place to reconnect with what really matters.

Relax in comfort inside or out. Inside, the spacious open floor plan is designed for time together. With a full kitchen, dining area, comfortable living space, large private bathroom, and a spacious bedroom with partial wall, the home will sleep four. The bedroom has a queen-size bed. The living room has a large leather sofa that fold out to a queen-size bed. Outside, the large covered patio has space for outdoor dining or relaxing in the ample shade while enjoying mountain views and cooling breezes. The fire ring is the perfect spot for campfire, ghost stories, and making s’mores.

Enjoy the convenience of being close to the Ghost Town, Big Bend National Park, the Rio Grande River, and Big Bend Ranch State Park. From the house to the heart of the Ghost Town, it is just over a half mile walk, ride, or drive. Driving to other area attractions is convenient with the house just over a half mile to FM 170. One mile to Desert Sports, two miles to Rio Aviation, four miles to La Kiva Bar & Grill, five miles to Far Flung and Big Bend River Tours, five and a half miles to Hwy 118, six miles to Big Bend Stables, and just eight miles to the western entrance to Big Bend National Park.

Thanks for letting us tell you about Pat O’s Place. Now, come and experience it for yourself. After you do, we suspect that you will want to tell your friends. That is exactly how Pat would have wanted it. This was his special place. It can now be your place to enjoy and remember.

Went for the chili cook off. Enjoyed BBNP. Cemetery for day of the dead is a must experience. Locution was perfect, close to everything. Unpaved road to the property is rough. Glad we had our Bronco. The property is exactly as described. Quiet and peaceful but close to lots of activities.

Great spot outside Big Bend National Park
We really enjoyed our stay at Pat O’s! It’s set back with a great view. The cabin was clean and all essential amenities were provided. The road is a little rough (like most roads in Terlingua), but most passenger vehicles will be fine. Our only wish was that Terlingua rentals were a little more affordable.

Fantastic property with excellent location
We came for the hiking and stayed for Pat O’s front porch with exceptional views! Superior location for Big Bend NP and the region. Bed is comfortable- great sleeping. Kitchen had everything we needed. Bath and kitchen are remodeled. Lovely fire pit though we didn’t use because of windy conditions during our stay (for ban in effect).

We have stayed at Pat O's everytime we visit Big Bend. It is a great place to stay - comfortable, quiet, beautiful. The hosts are so easy to work with. Love to star gaze, watch the sunrise and sit on the porch relaxing after a day of hiking!

Loved Pat O's!
This was a perfect home/cabin for the two of us. It was very clean, well furnished, etc. We loved the star gazing! We weren't there much during the day - gone hiking in Big Bend - Pat O's was a great location for this! Our only negative thing to say doesn't pertain directly to Pat O's but to the road leading to it. We arrived after dark and the road up to the driveway was challenging (we had received excellent directions via email). I would recommend a vehicle with high clearance - (if you are going to Big Bend NP to hike there were several hikes that also required high clearance vehicles to get to the trailhead parking via challenging rock roads.) We loved Pat O's and made a friend of a Road Runner bird who was hanging around two mornings in a row.

Cute, Comfortable Space near Town
We enjoyed our stay over the Holiday week - very close to town and Big Bend - house was comfortable - had to buy a few things to make "thanksgiving dinner" as far as kitchen items go - but they had everything you would normally need - would stay here again!

Wonderful little home in a beautiful setting
We booked this wonderful home to check out Big Bend National Park, and really enjoyed this hidden gem in this small and remote ghost town of Terlingua. The house was clean and welcoming. The bed linens and towels were clean and really nice. The surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. If you want to see the night sky, this is the place to see it, absolutely amazing. The people that ran it were responsive and wanted to make sure we were happy with everything. I would go back with my family in a heartbeat.

All the comforts of home!
Pat O's is wonderful--super clean, well stocked with everything needed, and very comfortable. Everything about it is top-notch! We enjoyed the information provided about the cabin's history, and our river guide for the Santa Elena Canyon float trip said he had been trained by Pat! This will be always be our first choice for lodging in the Big Bend area.

Pat o’s place
Didn’t realize it was a gravel road getting there. That info might have been helpful. Also the word “brew” was completely rubbed off the button on the coffee maker so I had to go online and find coffee maker directions. Realized the silver button with no words on it was the brew button. Maybe leave a sign saying how to brew the coffee with the missing words on the button. AC was loud so we wore earplugs at night for.sleeping. Otherwise, we were very happy with our stay. Great stocked kitchen. Good location.

Great accomodations in a peaceful place
Wonderful place to stay in the ghost town near Big Bend National Park. Best amenities of all the VRBOs we have stayed in. Shampoo, coffee and other stuff. Made life more civilized in the middle of nowhere. Well cleaned and maintained. One bedroom and pull out sofa makes it suitable for a couple and a child. Would not recommend for a large family. History of Pat O write-up in the shelf gave a great historical perspective on the place. Access is passable for any vehicle just be aware that it is a rough road. Nothing to be frightened of, just drive slowly and carefully. Wonderful view from a very peaceful front porch setting in the provided rocking chairs. A great place to spend some quiet time.

Great Getaway to Big Bend!
We enjoyed our stay at Pat O’s Place over Spring Break! The home had everything we needed—plenty of linens, toiletries, well-stocked kitchen, lots of storage hooks (these came in handy!) and we loved the property, as well. Our kids enjoyed hiking around and looking at the rocks. Thankfully the rattlesnakes were still hibernating so we didn’t come across any! We did get to hear a pack of coyotes come through the yard one night which was awesome! There was a TV in the house which it explicitly said in the listing that there was no TV, so that was a pleasant surprise for my kiddos in the evenings after a long day of hiking :) it was loaded up with all the streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+. The home is in a good location very close to Big Bend NP but my ONLY caution would be to drive EXTREMELY slow when you turn off the main road. I don’t think we were going over 10mph and unfortunately our minivan blew a tire as we were pulling up the drive. Thankfully a local man was able to patch the flat but my husband had to drive all the way to Alpine (1hr 15 mins each way) to get a new tire the next day. We lost a half day of our trip. This was to no fault of the owner, just want to caution other renters! It’s not a normal gravel road, there are some very big rocks thrown in the mix. Also—be sure to bring food because there aren’t many restaurants in town. The few we tried were not that great. The lodge restaurant in the National park was very good, though! All in all, I’d highly recommend a stay at Pat O’s Place and we will definitely stay here again if ever in Big Bend. Thanks to the hosts!

Loved the property. It was a very comfortable, well-supplied rental. The drive from the main road was questionable, but the quiet location made up for it. Would love to see a list of restaurants in the area on the table.

Living a Big Bend Dream
The adobe house is a tribute to Pat, who actualized his dream when he built this simple home. Attention has been paid to all the details which make one’s stay effortless. The morning and evening views of the Chisos mountain range, while rocking on the front porch, are the perfect way to begin and end the day. A best Vrbo experience.
