Location is great. We could walk everywhere. Somewhat trashy outside but maybe city's fault. Room was clean but could use some updating and paint.

Charging 10 dollars for parking in Taos is just a quick cash grab. Didn’t realize there was a parking charge until I got there. The front desk lady was nice but couldn’t waive the fee since I went through Expedia. The bathroom layout was really inconvenient too. Bed was comfy though. If I go back to Taos, I would likely search for another hotel.

Quaint hotel

It was just for one night after staying several nights in Santa Fe. Hotel is very old, yet quaint. We chose because it is in the plaza. The parking lot at the back of the hotel is gravel — so very hard to roll your suitcase. Also, elevator in back of hotel, our room was six additional steps down and again with our suitcase it was difficult. Room was very small and rustic (outdated), but to be expected for the age of the hotel. The room was clean. The public gathering area was very nice.

Hidden parking charge.

We used to live in Taos. We are very familiar with the area, and have enjoyed staying at Hotel La Fonda in the past. This time, we were hit with a $10 parking fee. Looking way deep into the detail of the property, on the booking site, you can see it is declared. But beware, it is not obvious. The parking is not an issue at the property, there is no security, and we were never charged a fee before. In this area, there is really nowhere else to park, so they know they have you. I just didn't feel great about being charged. We will not book here again, as there are many other hotels in the area that do not charge for parking. There is limited food options at this property as well, a "to go" breakfast, for a fee. The property itself, has kind of gone down over the years, so we will explore other options. Lovely staff, good service. Clean room.

Nice hotel in the middle of the Taos main plaza. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel/plaza. Hotel parking is behind the hotel, at a cost of $10 per night. Rooms are not your typical hotel style rooms. They have a rustic character to them that is different from the conventional hotels most people use. Note: When I stayed there in August 2025, there was remodeling being done on the plaza itself, so part of it looks like a construction site. However all the shops and restaurants were open.

The La Fonda is a beautiful old hotel. Paying for parking in the rear was so worth it. We came and left frequently, going to historical sites and Taos Pueblo. We were able to sample some local cuisine in the hotel restaurant and the owner was very informative, telling us about the history of his people and the foods they prepare(d). There is an area for games or quiet time. There was a festival on the square Saturday afternoon and evening which made us appreciate the location even more. We had a 2 room suite with a Murphy bed in the first room and a king in the bedroom. We lit our gas fireplace for a few minutes for ambiance one evening before bed. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Funky old structure with a ton of charm in a great area. The surround can be a little noisy at night, but it didn’t bother me. $10 a day hotel parking charge in the underutilized gravel lot out back is a bit irritating. The rooms got pretty warm during the heat of the day and the anemic air conditioning was nowhere near up to the task of providing adequate cooling. Still, I would stay there again.

I think this hotel is very quaint. The room was clean and comfortable. The few things I did not care for was the AC would not cool the room off unless we closed the separate door because we had a two room room and I did not care for the step up into the bathroom, it is a fall risk. I would try and get a different room next time we go the Taos.

It's a great old hotel in a wonderful location. The restaurant is expensive but there are lots of good options around. Our room was spacious, and interesting, but the air conditioner was inadequate and the WiFi was poor in the room. We found a lovely balcony inside the hotel where our laptops and phones worked better. Since it's so old and crazy, there are some maintenance issues like stains on the ceiling and windows that don't open right; but overall we found it very charming and we would go back again.
