Grandma's House Summa

Summary:
Grandma's House is located in the outport community of Fairbanks, about a 20-minute drive from Twillingate. The home was built back in 1869 and has been in the same family for generations. It is a cherished place, filled with joyful memories. It sits on the edge of North Atlantic, along iceberg alley, offering a stunning view of the sea and a glimpse into life in an outport community.

The Space:
As with many homes in NL, you enter through the rear door into the mud room and laundry area. From there, you'll enter the large eat-in kitchen from which you'll take in the gorgeous view of the ocean. As is typical in NL, the entertaining tends to happen in the kitchen and this home has a long history of kitchen parties. The cozy living area is just off the kitchen, and also offers the stunning view. Out front, there is a screened-in porch where you can enjoy a meal or simply relax. Upstairs you'll find 3 bedrooms, two of the rooms have double beds and the third room has a single bed. The full bathroom is also located on the 2nd floor. With this house being built in 1869, the stairs are original to the house. We do ask that guests please be careful when using them, they are narrow, have narrow foot paths and are steep.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire home.

The Neighborhood:
Fairbanks is a remote outport community. Here you will enjoy peace and quiet. Although the community of Fairbanks does not offer any amenities, the bustling town of Twillingate is only 20 minutes away. There you'll find 3 grocery stores, 2 pharmacies, a liquor store, gas station, as well as various tourist attractions.

Getting Around:
Driving is the most typical way that visitors explore the area. That said, it is a walker/hikers dream. Whether you prefer the road or the trails, there is so much to explore.

Other Things to Note:
As with many remote NL communities, there are no amenities in Fairbanks. The closest larger communities are Summerford and Twillingate. You'll pass Summerford on your way from Gander or Lewisporte, and Twillingate is about 20 minutes further along Route 340, and worth the trip! A gas station, liquor store, grocery store and pharmacy are available in Summerford. In Twillingate, you'll find 3 grocery stores, a liquor store, 2 pharmacies, restaurants/pubs, and various tourist attractions, including boat tours, the Rockcut Coastal Hiking Trail System, museums, and more!

Interaction with Guests:
Managed locally (based in Twillingate) and here if you need us. We're only a message or call away.
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and a stovetop. There's a private balcony. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.

Excellent location!
Such a cute little house that is quaintly decorated with a gorgeous view from the big screened in porch. It comes with everything you need. Near Twillingate which has so much to offer. Lots of very cool hikes!

Loved Grandmas House
Adorable house, loved the Lobster Pot on the table when we arrived, quiet and short drive to Twillingate and a nice break from travelling. Stairs were very narrow and short hut we adjusted no problem. Would go again and recommend it.

Nice, quiet location
The house is very cute and has everything you might need. Careful on the stairs-they are quite steep and narrow. The front porch is a lovely spot for coffee in the morning. I just wish the beds had been replaced after having been mentioned in previous reviews. Very old and uncomfortable beds.

Beautiful area
We only had time to stay one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The house was perfect for the scenic setting and I'd recommend it to anyone travelling to that area.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Liked the screened in porch. Thankful for the use of the washer and dryer. Disliked the water quality - smelled like fish. The mattresses were saggy... bad sleep. Expensive for one night.

Grandma’s house
Very quaint older home, extremely hot only one fan and beds were terrible. No outside patio or furniture to sit out on. Loved the property but for reasons listed wouldn’t go back

This property was very cozy and welcoming. It took about 3 and a half seconds to feel at home. Everything you need is there and easy to find. Hope tp stay here again someday as I am planning another trip to see the iceburgs. Very happy with this spot.
