1st Capitol Mansion - Charles Schibi Suite - 101

The 1st Capital Mansion

Make the most of your St. Charles experience with a stay in the historic 1st Capitol Mansion, right in the heart of the city. This completely renovated home was thoughtfully done, keeping in much of the original brilliant architecture, while bringing in bright light, gathering spaces and modern comfort.

Start your day right and head across the street to grab some coffee at Crooked Tree Coffeehouse, one of the best coffee shops in the city. Then spend your day exploring St. Charles -- we’re just a quarter mile to the riverfront’s Frontier Park, with its many festivals and easily accessible bike trail, a half mile from shops and restaurants on historic Main Street and a mile from the Ameristar Casino Resort and Spa. Return to the mansion for happy hour-- it’s just a few steps to the Corner Bar, the oldest bar in St. Charles, with one of the last “cocked hat” bowling alleys in the country right in its basement. If you’re feeling something a bit classier, pop over to Cork & Rind, a wine bar and artisan cheese shop that specializes in curating naturally made wines from small vineyards.

The Charles Schibi Suite - 101

The Charles Schibi -- a nod to an original owner of the mansion, an original brewmaster and owner of the Schibi Brewery that was opened in 1889. The brewery was sold in 1907 and was renamed the Fischbach Brewing Co. This is a beautiful, open space designed for entertaining with a full kitchen and dining area that seamlessly transitions into a comfortable living room, complete with foosball table and game nook. Sleep in one of 3 large, comfortable beds (1 king, 1 queen and 1 queen sofa sleeper).

This space is the basement of the mansion but when you are down there it is hard to tell because you have your own private entrance and lots of windows to bring light in. If you like dark places to sleep you will love this unit because the unlike the main living area the bedrooms have now windows.

Just outside of your front door is a patio set to enjoy your morning coffee or on the front wrap around porch.

You’ll enjoy most of the common things you would find in your home: full dish sets, silverware, pots and pans, a blender, a coffee maker, and more. We keep supplies for a coffee bar, oil, salt and pepper so you won’t ever find yourself without. And in the bathroom there’s shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

You’ll also have your own private entrance and parking spaces.
Guest Access
You will be able to access the unit with a digital code so there is no contact in getting into your unit.

You will also have access to the soda machine located on the back porch
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, which has a kitchen. Conveniences include a desk and a coffee/tea maker.
Guests will find features like onsite parking.

DO NOT STAY HERE
Myself, partner and 3 young children stayed here for 4 nights. The add specifically said in two different places that breakfast was included and free with our stay and that amenity is the main reason we booked this rental. When we woke up on the first day i inquired to the host when/where is breakfast served. When he finally got back to me 2 hours later he informed me there is no breakfast and that the add does say that but is incorrect. He offered going to get honey buns from sams for us but by this time we had already had to go out and buy breakfast for the 5 of us. He said he would see what they could do for the next 3 days of our stay and that he would get back with me. The next day he texted saying he would venmo me $15 a day to cover breakfast. I replied that i did not even have venmo and i cant feed 5 people breakfast for $15. Not to mention the inconvience of having to worry about figuring out breakfast every morning. He never replied after that despite myself and vrbo trying to get this figured out for 2 days. On the last day i had to spend 2 hours on the phone with vrbo trying to even get the $60 he said he would reimburse us. Other issues are 4/5 outlets in the kitchen and one in a bedroom DO NOT WORK. Never brought us clean towels or tp. the bathroom shower door is broken at the bottom so it swings in and out. The shower head sprays out of the shower door. PULL OUT COUCH IS BROKEN. NO oven mits. NO pizza cutter. NO spatulas. Coffee cups are tiny. TERRIBLE STAY.

Perfect fit!
This location was ideal for our stay and the space in the charming historic mansion has been nicely updated. It’s only steps away from the business we were in town to visit and an easy walk to Main Street!

St Charles is so quaint!
This old house has a lot of character! Good things about this place is the location and the air conditioning was fabulous! Large flatscreen TVs in each bedroom and the living room. The full size fridge stove and kitchen area were a good size. We did not use any kitchen cooking items as we stayed only one night. The beds were very comfortable And fresh and clean. The bathroom was clean with lots of fresh towels to use. Aesthetically, walls need painted and brown water damage on the ceiling tiles need replaced. The cleaning crew clearly wiped everything down because the haze remained on the refrigerator microwave and glass table. The couch and two chairs are definitely something I would put out to the curb. We would not even consider touching them. The stains and many discolorations Overall this place satisfied our needs.

Great short stay
We were travelling on a road trip, and chose this house to stay for one night. The downstairs rooms we rented were perfect for our needs. The place was clean, and comfortable. The bed was great. This house is perfect for anyone who appreciates old mansions. It is not like staying in a regular hotel. The location is easy to get to, safe, and good parking. There is a great "dive bar"across the street that served a respectable meal late, and a great coffee shop next to it for the morning breakfast and Jo I've put it on my list to return to whenever I pass through St. Louis again.
