MAXWELL'S MOUNTAIN UPPER CABIN. AMAZING VIEWS!!WINECOUNTRY!!! HOT TUB ON DECK!!

(Q1/24) I just installed a brand new hot tub on the deck outside overlooking the valley. PLEASE USE IT CAREFULLY. Shower before using, no oils nor perfumes. Please do not change any settings.

There is Wi-Fi but it's DSL so a bit slow. It's the very best we can get on the mountain. Best effort please. Laptops work MUCH better than cell phones. They put out more power.

This cabin is handicap accessible which is why I have been here full time thru Feb/24. I will be opening the dates soon.

Please be sure you're comfortable managing a wood stove in the cold seasons. It's your only source of heat but it's really easy to use. Just one setting, (AIR) to adjust on this stove.

New large screen TV , new lighting and accents. This is a VERY NICE cabin reasonably priced.

TO BE CLEAR.... THIS IS A CABIN IN THE WOODS... we are dog friendly, there are no leash laws..... If this offends you look elsewhere....

Please

This is an absolutely amazing cabin at the Naples Mountain View estate. Just outside of the charming town on Naples NY. Right in the heart of Finger Lakes Wine country! There are two rental cabins and over beautiful 20 acres to enjoy! There are two water falls on property in season! (Winter/Spring, less so Summer Autumn) Absolutely stunning views! There is a wood burning stove. Enjoy the a bon fire over looking the valley below. There is WiFi, .... But, Do you REALLY need it?

Please..... Try to understand... I am at the END of my rope with folks from NYC and Philly.... I do the VERY best I can to offer all of the info needed to ensure you enjoy your stay... But.... I am more and more frustrated as I grow older... This is a VERY NICE cabin in the woods. It's EXACTLY as described....The views are amazing... It's very reasonably priced and I am still eating half the cleaning crews costs...

Again... There are three cabins on this 20 acre property. Two are rentals. I am listing the "Upper cabin" at darned near cost. The Lower cabin is available at a special rate to VRBO/Homeaway guests

Late in 2024 I started realizing there were MANY new guests on the platforms, and they had very little idea of traditional expectations for both Guests and Hosts. Especially the 20-something crew...
This is my attempt to help resolve that.
Please be sure to read thru the Hosts online info in advance of your stay. VRBO has stopped allowing us to include attachments, so you need to hunt and peck for info.
My Cabin Info is 8 full pages full of useful info to help enhance your stay. PLEASE... If you can't find it online, ask me to send it in advance...
Having your SO read thru the info is not helpful unless you communicate effectively. Please take some time to read thru it personally.
Please communicate with your Host in advance of your stay. If you can provide an approximate ETA in advance of the days travel it will be VERY well received? This is HUGE as many of us manage multiple priorities.... Knowing what your plans are in advance to arrive is simply a common courtesy.
Please let your host know that everything is OK with your accommodations as you arrive. ALOT of work has been done in advance of your arrival. A simple acknowledgement will be very much appreciated.
Please turn off your lights when not in use. The crew is instructed to leave them on as you check in as it's easier to find a light to turn off than not know a light is there to leverage.
Firewood delivery is up 300% this year... I have a limited supply that is aged and seasoned.
You are encouraged to source your own, or let me know in advance and I can provide enough wood at my cost of $15 which is usually enough to last 2~-3~ days.
Please do not leave the crew dirty dishes in the sink. There is a $50 fee now.
Please clean up after your pet, especially pet hair.... I still allow our furry friends, but that may change soon.
Net... This is all really EASY stuff to help maximize your experience as well as your hosts.
Communication, and common courtesy is king... THANK YOU!!!!

We do appreciate it!!!!

Again... Please note we are on an Artesian well. The water quality varies during the year, I would encourage folks to bring their own drinking water.

WiFi info: On fridge

No smoking indoors please…. No exceptions….
There is a $250 cleaning fee if there is smoking in the cabin, (Legal or not :-) I had to enforce this last week as I lost a guest who noted the Marijuana smell from the previous guests. It cost me a fortune to have the entire cabin wiped down including the walls, vents, etc etc…

YOUR RATE: I have been asked to try to keep the rate to a bare minimum as people really appreciate the value. To accomplish this, I’ve implemented the following measures.

FIREWOOD IS THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF HEAT FOR YOUR CABIN.
I outsourced this to a local Amish child named Jacob. He's saving up for a new bike... VRBO folks have used his wood and not paid him three times this month alone. We are now discontinuing this service at the guidance of his Father. Source your own firewood if needed please.
Please do not attempt to use the propane heaters, they are intended for Winter use when the cabins are not used so the water doesn’t freeze. Propane is very expensive, hands off please.

A little more info about the cabins:

DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH. (Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo)

From the town of Honeoye NY which is on the North end of Honeoye Lake.

Turn South from route 20A South on County Road 36. (Also called West lake road) There is a small sign that says "Naples 15 mi".
Continue 10~ miles. Feather Street is on RIGHT.
Up hill 1/2 mile to mailboxes/stop sign. RIGHT.
Cabin is 1/2 mile on RIGHT. You'll see the "Upper cabin" first which is right along the road. My black H2 will be there if I am local.
Take either of the next two turns in the driveway, and you'll see the "lower cabin".

DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH (NYC, Binghamton, Hornell, etc)
From the town of Naples NY.
At "Middletown Tavern” turn North on Country Road 36.
Continue 5~ miles. Feather Street is on LEFT. (Just past "Hunt Hollow" ski center)
Up hill 1/2 mile to mailboxes/stop sign. RIGHT.
Cabin is 1/2 mile on RIGHT. You'll see the "Upper cabin" first which is right along the road.
There's no East/West approach to speak of. We're in the valley, so it's North/South approaches from either Honeoye or Naples. Of note! Some GPS will try to take folks on a Westerly trip down the mountain. There is NO OPEN ROAD regardless of what your GPS may think. :-)
Best to roll in to Naples or Honeoye and continue from there. :-)

CHECK IN and CHECK OUT

Check in is 3pm ET, Check out 11am ET.
If there's interest in checking in early, or out late just ask. I'll do the best I can to accommodate the requests based on circumstance.

GAINING ACCESS

Most of the time I will leave the door open and the key on the granite counter.
Please do the same as you depart.
Do not lock up, I only have one set of keys at the moment for both cabins :-).

WHAT DO I BRING?
Booze, drinking water, food, charcoal and fluid if you’re planning to grill, whatever toiletries you desire. Firewood if desired…

LINEN AND SUCH
I provide fresh linen, towels and such. Please do not remove your makeup with my towels. They are very expensive to replace.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned cabin, which features a fireplace and a Smart TV. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a DVD player is provided for your entertainment.
Enjoy the recreation opportunities such as a spa tub or make use of other amenities including barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Perfect Stay
I came up with my partner and my dog, Lemon, for a short stay during peak leaf season. The cabin was perfect for what we wanted, which was a few days in nature away from NYC. We were pleased to find that the kitchen was stocked with the essentials so that we could cook and didn’t have to rely on eating out the whole time. We also spent a lot of time stargazing from the hot tub on the deck, which was incredible. I loved building a fire in the fire pit and the wood stove (it’s so cozy and smells amazing) but I definitely would make sure you’re up for that challenge before making the reservation. It seems like some guests have not understood that before booking, which is unfortunate. Be sure to read through the description of the property and the rules carefully to avoid any misunderstandings. John was very communicative and helpful, while also giving us lots of privacy. All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thanks for everything John! We will definitely be back ♡

What a great place to stay and enjoy time in the Lakes area. The only challenge for the place is the water…it has a sulfur smell to it. We would stay there again.

Quiet Cabin
We came up to stay away from fireworks. It is difficult when your partner has PTSD from military service.Fireworks trigger it badly. The cabin was very secluded, wit a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. It had most amenities you would have at home. However, if you are afraid of washing dishes you use, by hand, this is not the place for you. I would advise bringing a few gallons of water., as the source there is an Artesian well. There is a sulfur smell to it, but it is safe to drink. (We used it for coffee and noticed no difference from regular municipal water. There is a large deck in back, with a glass table. We spent most of our time out there. There is also a charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid) as well as a small fire pit. Bring some kindling to start your fire, though. Inside, the place was well equipped, with a full kitchen asnd full bathroom. It does have a large screen Satellite TV ,plus a DVD player. AFor cold night John was an excellent host. He was very communicative and quite helpful. Overall, a great guy. His dogs are cool as well.He keeps the property up.

Short review
Cabin was as described. Nice view, wood stove, etc. My only issue was the communication with John about some things that were not made clear. Example, that there was a hard check-in time. My partner and I decided to switch up our itinerary because of the weekend rain. Now it may have been common knowledge on VRBO to tell the host of a different time, but this being our first time we didn’t know. That was our fault and we apologized, but John’s reaction was over the top.

MAXWELL'S MOUNTAIN UPPER CABIN
If you are looking for tremendous views, with quiet and isolation, this property may be for you. The cabin is tucked away on a quiet dirt road with limited traffic. We saw plenty of wildlife including deer and foxes. This is country living at its finest. There are a couple of drawbacks, the sofa and bed could use replacement and the cabin needs deep cleaning. I know from his posts that the owner has tried to make this property affordable for others to enjoy but personally I would have preferred to pay another $20 a night to see newer furniture.

The upper cabin was amazing, from the welcoming sign to the fresh flowers and the comfortable bed. Everything you need was thought of, even bottles of water in the fridge. You wake up to an amazing view of the mountain. We loved being so close to town and far enough to have a quite little road safety feel. We cant wait to return!!! Thank you John

Peaceful Mountain Retreat
I brought my puppies to visit my son, and what better place to stay than a mountain cabin! I loved every moment of my stay in “Maxwell’s Mountain Retreat”! The Host & dog Max are usually nearby on the property, which covers a large area north of town. There is so much to see & do in the area, do your research and make a plan for fun!! To all the folks out there who are “city-dwellers” and “suburban non-campers” considering renting this beautiful mountain retreat…please come prepared. Find a Boy Scout/Girl Scout or someone who is an avid outdoor camper, and ask what to expect. Your amazing Host has the big screen TV, satellite wi-fi, microwave, stove +oven, and running water inside, a BBQ grill & seating outside. Required skills for cabin fun: 1. How to build a basic campfire outside! Please come equipped with your own fire-starter kit and firewood (or purchase it from your Host). 2. How to use a pellet stove inside! Even in the summer, temperatures can be chilly, so be prepared…no propane use! 3. The cabin has mountain-sourced well-water, which is different than city water. Be prepared! You might want to bring your own bottled water to drink, but the well-water is perfectly safe to drink, cook, and shower with. 4. Be prepared for outdoor activities: Backpack w/GPS, food, water, appropriate footwear, layered clothes, rain gear, jacket, and hat. Come enjoy the peaceful life of this amazing mountain cabin, explore the natural beauty, fresh air, & sounds of silence.

Serene cabin with awesome deck
My husband and I stayed in the upper cabin for two weeks with our dog. We loved the serenity and scenery, especially from the back deck. Our dog also had a few romps with Max, the resident dog. The deck has a fire pit, dining table and comfy Adirondack chairs. The cabin is great for two people. We ate in a lot and there is a charcoal grill and kitchen supplies to cook meals. The bathroom is small but adequate. John is a great host and will answer any questions and give suggestions for things to do in the area.We visited several state parks, wineries and small towns and all were easy day trips. Would highly recommend nearby Grimes Glen where you hike about a mile in a riverbed to end up at a swimming hole. Nearby town of Naples has a grocery store, library with "free" shelf, several restaurants and shops for most things you would need.

The most beautiful cabin with the most beautiful view
This was our first experience booking with VRBO, our cabin, John and Maxwell were so wonderful. The cabin was absolutely beautiful, John gave us a few recommendations of places to visit which turned out to be a memorable adventure for us. I highly recommend booking this cabin. John thank you so much for everything, I had so many good things to share with two of our best friends that within a matter of days they booked a week at your cabin and can not wait to experience what we did. We look forward to returning soon!!
