Beautiful view of the River
Overall it is a good place to stay, you are right on the river, though there is not access to the river. I would have liked to give the house four stars but there were a few problems. The house had no bath for our toddler which should be noted in the listing. Also, a few niggling problems that were small but annoying. Like the DVD remote had no batteries and of course we did not have the right size with us. Having said that it was a really fun stay and our family did enjoy the house and the location. I wish I could give the house 3.5 out of five stars.

Photos are old and house is so dirty
We were so excited for this home as the photos were so beautiful…unfortunately it seems those photos are from when the house was first built. We arrived at the house to find a used wash cloth in the bottom bathroom. When you walk in the home you are met with the smell of dog urine. If you’re going to have a pet friendly home I highly recommend getting rid of the carpet. We had very little water pressure. The shower heads being replaced would probably fix that. I wish there would have been a vacuum we could have used to clean up from walking in and out. As most CO homes there was no ac but ceilings fans would be helpful. The house had 1 ceiling fan and 2 box fans. Only one box fan worked we went to the store and bought 3 fans. The carpets are stained and again smell. We found the water filter in looking for towels….it was brown as mud. The towels are holy and stained so they need replaced. The house could be beautiful it just needs cleaned and refreshed. All the windows didn’t open. With the hot summers mini splits are highly recommended. All the appliances need updated. We had to wash all dishes before using. We wouldn’t even use the toaster because it was so dirty. We love the area but we were so disappointed in the house. The house smelled so bad we left a whole day early and paid for a motel room. Again this home could be beautiful with some TLC. The location is great and the neighborhood was awesome. The local sheriff checked on us & was so nice

Very nice setting and location. descent sized rooms. furniture is a little warn and uncomfortable. We had no hot water the first night but the local folks worked hard to get it fixed asap. They also came right away to fix a faucet that broke. Kitchen was pretty well stocked but some stuff needs replacing i.e. hot pads, towels, Knives, etc. Plenty of blankets, firewood and propane along with plenty enough kitchen and bathroom supplies for a few days. We accidentally left some clothes in the closet and they offered to send to us for an extra charge, but I have yet to hear from the locals or get them back. :( Overall, it was an enjoyable quiet stay and the Vacasa employees were very congenial to work with.

We really enjoyed staying here for the quiet. Its away from a big road but yet the River is right across the road. The house is big so great for the grandaughter learning to walk. They even had baby gates. Needed cabinet locks under the sink to keep kids outta any chemicals. Wasnt crazy about most of the good cookware being stainless. Pancakes stuck, gravy stuck. Kinda a pain. Not enough silverware. Only 6 forks. Beds are comfortable. Had issues with the hot water for 3 days and figuring out how to run a Fire TV but the Maintenance guys are really nice and came as quick as they could. Hot Tub was so nice after a day on the mountain. Its the first place I've ever stayed that didn't have a binder of instructions (TV, Hot Water Heater, Hot Tub), what's in the area, helpful facts and check out instructions. I would check to see if hot water is fixed but if so we would definately stay here again and bring my own skillets.

Great Home
We had a really good time and really enjoyed the houses proximity to the river. About the only complaint we had was that the carpet really needs to be replaced or professionally cleaned. Otherwise, we had a great time and will return next year.

Excellent place to stay as it is right on the Rio Grande. You can walk out your door and be fishing in a minute. We had dogs and they enjoyed the back yard. House was clean and we experienced no problems. I am sure we will try to re-book next time we go to South Fork.

Disappointing
The cabin had mouse droppings in the kitchen and on the beds. The trays with guest booklets had a lot of mouse droppings. There were cobwebs in the bedrooms and living room. The windows were smeared with lots of finger prints. There was a dead bat hanging in the fireplace. You could not get in the floor of the living room without being covered with white dog hair. We called about hot water and were told they would send a plumber out....2 days later, still no visit from plumber and still no hot water. I am not sure what the cleaning fee is used for...was very disappointed with this cabin and will not stay here again.

On the river
Great last minute week in south Fork. The house is right on the river (it is 2nd to last of 8 or 9 homes on the river road so pretty private) and 5 minutes from town. We met several of the neighbors and everyone was very friendly and helpful. The fully fenced backyard was a godsend for the dog and you can fish the Rio right out the front door (note for non-Coloradans that our stream access laws dictate that the landowner owns to the middle so while wading you need to stay on the North half of the streambed between the house and the CR19 bridge, but the fishing is good in this stretch and wading restrictions aren’t an issue during the low flows of August). House was stocked with everything we needed, cooking supplies aplenty and a good selection of books and dvds. Took the 11yo a day or two to adjust to no wifi :) It’s a great place to hang out and an excellent base to explore the area from.

Wonderful experience, beautiful and convenient setting for all the adventures near South Fork
We found the cabin very clean and well stocked as others have described. We very much enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return. The fenced in backyard was convenient for our dog and we loved being close to the river. We had great successs fly fishing for brown and rainbow trout. Hiking in the mountains was convenient and uncrowded. If you’re into rock climbing, Penitnete Canyon is absolutely amazing! Overall great experience with this property, management and location.

Beautiful, Peaceful, Serene. A great place to recharge your batteries.
This was our second time staying at the Cutthroat Lodge and, once again, we absolutely loved it! The cabin has plenty of room, is very cozy, beautifully decorated, comfortable furniture, fully stocked with kitchen necessities, towels, sheets, blankets, and pillows. Rebekah, the property manager, is just wonderful to work with, and she was always available throughout our stay to answer questions. The cabin sits on a private road so traffic is very minimal. My husband and I enjoyed taking walks along the river and just reconnecting with each other. This is a wonderful place to “recharge your batteries”, meditate, clear your mind, and rid yourself of stress. The cabin overlooks the beautiful Rio Grande River. I enjoyed opening the window at night to take in the fresh mountain air and listen to the flowing river. We did not watch much TV, but there is Direct TV in the cabin along with a DVD player and video library. There is no Wi-Fi in the cabin, but that is okay as we really enjoy disconnecting from the workplace. Most of the restaurants and the library in town have Wi-Fi available if you really need to check your emails or social media. There are some great restaurants in town; our personal favorite was The Old Firehouse as they have some wonderful salads. We shopped at some great shops in town; The Cabin, Blue Eyed Bear Boutique, Mountain Lighthouse and Gallery, and Doc’s Outdoor Sports. We explored the trails by renting a side-by side (UTV) from the Outdoor Depot, which is located just minutes from the cabin. The views on the trails were absolutely amazing. Our 2 large doggies enjoyed the large fenced in yard where they could run around and explore. Not only was the cabin great, but the area it is located in is so peaceful and serene. We spent a lot of time sitting on the back deck reading some great books and just taking in the beautiful scenery. This is such a great place to get away from it all. Thank you to our hosts and Rebekah for allowing us to stay at the beautiful Cutthroat Lodge. We hope to see you next year, if not sooner.

Comfortable lodge with scenic view of the Rio Grande within minutes of Wolf Creek ski area
Our family of 9 spent a wonderful week spring break 2018 at Cutthroat Lodge. Check in was a breeze and the cabin was prepared and ready for us on arrival. The lodge is well stocked with clean linens and towels and the only thing the kitchen didn't have was a waffle iron - everything we needed to prepare meals for our crew was there (except the food, of course). Beds were comfy, plenty of closet space, and the hot water (I mean HOT) lasted through a full round of showers for 9 bodies. The well water tastes awesome and soap rinses easily from dishes and clothes. The fridge was large enough to hold a week's worth of food and there are enough coffee filters to last until the next millennium! The wood burning stove (a must for any visit to the mountains) was easy to work and there was an abundance of cut and split logs to burn. We kept the thermostat at 55 the entire week and it was pleasant in the lodge all day/night. You can open the screened windows in each sleeping area at night if you want cool mountain air. The Rio Grande is only a few yards from the front door and there is sufficient bank to fish from or you can wade in easily. The back yard is fenced in if you decide to bring your pets. There is a "mud room" off the kitchen with access to the front drive where a large dog can stay as well as where you can store your ski/boarding gear. There are a few good restaurants in town and the local grocery, the Rainbow mart, has everything from fresh veggies and meats, to staples, to snow chains and outdoor gear. Don't bring anything other than food - many previous guests have left cleaning supplies, the aforementioned coffee filters, and laundry soap - so wait until you see what you need then head to the Rainbow mart. The Wolf Creek ski area is about 20 miles from the lodge - much closer than accessing the ski area from Pagosa Springs. Cutthroat is a great value for large families or small groups. We're already planning our next stay at Cutthroat Lodge. Thanks Rebecca and our hosts for a wonderful get away!

Great living spaces and big yard.
We caught some beautiful views of the mountains and skies from the front of the house! Kitchen was well stocked with spices and dining ware. Our kids had a fun time in the backyard stomping through snow and building a snowman. Since we went skiing, the wet room area was great for removing all our gear without messing up the rest of the house. It was a 30 mins drive to the Wolf Creek Ski Resort, which isn’t terrible. Overall a great time was had by all. Rebekah was great to work with as well! Thank you for the hospitality!

Lovely location. Had a wonderful time!
My family and I had a lovely time at the cutthroat lodge. The location is pretty much just outside of south fork and was easy to find and very easy to access. You couldn't possibly get any closer to the river! We had everything we needed to cook and entertain. The fenced in yard was wonderful for my puppy who typically likes to roam. The neighbors around the area were super friendly. And Rebekah was kind, quick to respond, and wonderfully accommodating to all of my requests. Overall we had a great time and I look forward to returning to enjoy again!
