Description

This Guest Haus is located close to many recreational opportunities like hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and let's not forget the world class fly fishing that our local and mountain streams offer. Stay here and take a day trip to any of the local historic places, adventure opportunities, natural wonders, or cultural activities. This is still the wild west!

You will snuggle into your queen size bed in the bedroom that was formerly the wine room and is decorated as such. Our old beer room contains bunk beds covered with old quilts made by each of our grandmothers. There is also extra sleeping for two on the futon and reclining couch. If needed, cots can be provided.

Restaurants and a grocery store are within walking distance, as is the Post Office (right next door) so you can mail those postcards back home. The library is located conveniently right across the street for books and DVD's. Our DVD player is also set up to stream from Netflix...even kiddoes movies.

Story is, in keeping with its name, a storybook-like community, nearly hidden by Ponderosa Pines, Hawthorns and greenery in the summer and generally covered in a blanket of snow in winter.

You will enjoy staying in this 1,500 sq. foot repurposed old Piney Creek General Store and the Waldorf A' Story restaurant. It's been said that we were a 'place with an attitude'...and that attitude is a philosophy of enjoying the quality of life that Story has to offer. We couldn't let the mystique die, so our previous establishment was re-purposed into this lovely guest haus that is available for year round rental.

It has the ambiance of places long ago with worn, rustic floors, rock walls, flagstone dining room floor and a bar built from an extra LARGE Ponderosa beetle killed tree, but with all the modern conveniences. You will also find coffee, and homemade bread and wine.

You will take great pleasure from the antiques and all the paraphernalia on the walls which will keep you entertained for hours...as well as an abundance of games.

View the sunrise from the awesome huge rocking chairs produced right here in Story while you rock away the hours on the front porch. Sunsets behind the mountains are just as spectacular. There is a stream on the property with places for you to sit and enjoy your early morning coffee...or mimosas.

We are close to the Bozeman Trail. Also, you will find Ft. Phil Kearney, The Wagon Box Fight Site, and the Fetterman battlefield, all of which experienced a portion of the Indian Wars. Custer's Last Stand is just an hour away.

Hiking and snowshoeing are two ways in which you can obtain exercise and observe the most beautiful wildflowers. Another option is to four-wheel up beautiful Thornerider or Penrose Park. ATV's are wonderful for exploring historical sites. Winter time allows for snowmobiling.

Several events occur year round, but the summer is full of excitement. You will find reenactments of fight scenes and one of the biggest Rodeo's around is held in Sheridan the second week of July every year. This week-long celebration holds fun for everyone.

Wildlife is in abundance. Keep your eyes out for all the deer and more!
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an oven. There's a private patio. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a DVD player is provided for your entertainment. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
Spend the day on the slopes, or enjoy other recreational amenities, which include ski-in/ski-out access.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

A surprise around every corner. We loved the history of the place. The cute personal touches like family photos & the stores very own eye spy book made it unique. The kids never got bored. And the homemade gift of banana bread made it feel as if we were visiting family

Incredible unique property
This is the second time our group has stayed here and it was a great experience both times. The hostess, Patty, is extremely accommodating and friendly! She makes you feel at home immediately!! The kitchen area and bar are fantastic with a commercial store to cook on. The bar and stools are carved logs and make for a wonderful visiting area. The property is one of the most unique I have ever stayed at. Every time I looked around I would find another interesting item I didn't see before. If you stay once you will return!

We loved the town and proximity to the store and Wagon Box restaurant. Patty has creative a fun and relaxing enviroment that kept us finding new decor right up to the last day!! We utilized the Storyhenge firepit the last night and listened to the babbling brook. Everyone in town was so nice. Idealic is the word we kept using to describe what we were experiencing. Thank you so much!! The Hegdahls

Perfect Spot
We loved this spot. We tend to like small towns and Story was perfect. Patty was so kind and responsive. We were at home right when we pulled up the place is wonderful and interesting. There’s so many things to look at inside as it’s decorated with so many odds and ends. Good information available about local things to do and see. We were very comfortable and everything inside worked like a charm. The area is amazing. Lots of history and a few amazing non chain restaurants nearby (Wagon Box in particular) that we loved. And of course, if you need to go to town, Sheridan isn’t that far away. We also decided to make the hour or so trip up to Little Bighorn, a bucket list item for me. My last thought is about how beautiful this part of the country is. I can’t wait to go back and I’d stay with Patty again.

A hidden gem...
What an amazing place! This was our second stay at the Waldorf A' Story (the first was during the covid shutdowns in 2020). Patty is a wonderful host! She is happy to share the history of the Waldorf (which is a fascinating story), and give you tips on the best places to visit based on your interests. The cabin is very clean, and the kitchen is incredibly well stocked. I would highly recommend this as a must-stay destination for people looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation with lots of opportunities to experience the wildlife (deer, wild turkeys, etc.), and a feeling a stepping back in time. I look forward to our third stay!

Wow. Amazing place to stay!
What a unique experience to stay in this amazing place. It was like being in your own private museum. The kitchen was great for cooking meals and the bed was super comfortable. Story is a cute little town. The neighborhood was quite and very safe. There were poppies in bloom all around the property, which was a nice touch. Communication was great and check in was easy. Highly recommend! We can’t wait to go back!

A Wonderful Delightful Strange Place
You can't help but smile at all of the details on the property as well as in the guest house itself. From the unique and beautiful western/mountain man architecture and humorous signage on the inside to the delightful yard art and small buildings (love the relax chairs by an active flowing stream), the guest property beckons a return trip. The neighborhood was also a delight... families of wild turkeys seemed to always be watching us at every turn.
