Location
5 minutes by vehicle and you are in the authentic Costa Rican funky beach towns of Samara or Carrillo. Of course you are probably going to take a bit longer as all vehicles give way to the many passing iguanas, horses, cows and howler monkeys who observe from the trees. Because of the ARA Project, a Red Macau breeding and rescue concern... located in Punta Islita (tours available), we now have four Red Macaus nesting in the reserve ( Wing Nuts Zip Line ) right next to the house. You WILL see these colorful…red, blue, yellow and green parrots coming and going directly in front of the pool!
Samara's beach front restaurants and side bars, offer a wide culinary experience. If you desire the authentic Costa Rican Gallo Pinto or Casado... hamburger, pizza, sushi/ Asian or something with a French flare, to charcoal grilled steak, chicken, pork chops or whole red snapper... you will find it here! Salsa Lizano is a Costa Rican condiment developed in 1920 by the Lizano Company. Try a splash and perhaps bring some back as a memorable souvenir to share with your friends and family. Every morning on Samara Beach you will see the local fishermen launching their fishing boats and bringing back a wide selection of seafood for local restaurant offerings. All the restaurants are extremely beach casual, so sit back, watch the sunset while sipping your favorite beverage and enjoy how the warm sand feels between your toes... it doesn't get much better than this!
Activities
In downtown Samara and directly on the beach you will find a selection of tour and water activity operators. Yoga on the beach at sunrise, surfing & paddle boarding, organic farmers market, ATV rentals, zip line and aerial parks are only some of the few fun things you can do. One of the best is a motor coach tour offering one, two and three day excursions to Costa Rica's famous Arenal Volcano, with its soothing hot springs and mud baths…it is hard to pass up!
A few other overnight excursions include the Monte Verde Cloud Forest which is known for the exhilarating eight bridge cloud walk and the Manuel Antonio National Park with its white-sand beaches, rugged rain forest with a diversity of tropical plants and wildlife including the three toed sloth, endangered white-faced capuchin monkeys and hundreds of species of birds. Waterfall tours including several on horseback and nature and wild life tours are also a fun way to spend the day. Not to mention river rafting, kayaking and canoeing in local mangroves, or snorkeling and diving in the barrier reef!
There is never a dull moment in Samara! At the end of the day, pamper yourself by scheduling a massage at one of the several "well being" centers, surrounded by tropical flowers, sounds of local birds and breaking surf.
