The house is one of Reykjavik’s “funkis style” houses built 1937/38 in one of the first architect designed residential houses in a planned neighbourhood with all lounges and gardens facing south. The house is typical of the area and is clad with what can best be described as lava like concrete coating for protection against the elements.
The house has been extensively refurbished and contains all modern features for a comfortable and carefree stay in a quiet residential area a short walk from the City centre.
The Space
Wireless Internet - works in all rooms. The router is located in the living room - network and access code are listed on the side of the router. From the entrance hall there is a door leading to a space for hanging outdoor clothing and shoes. The kitchen is fully fitted and well equipped including a mixer, microwave and toaster (there is a second kitchen on the lower ground floor).
Bedroom 1 has has a queen sized double bed and a good wardrobe. Space to store luggage. Small balcony facing the garden. Bedroom 2 has a king sized double bed, a small desk to and space to store luggage. Bedroom 3 has a bunk-bed (90cm x 200cm).
The Bathroom is fully tiled, it has a double sink with a large mirror and shaver power-point. The bathroom has a large comfy rain-shower unit. There is a hairdrier stored in the large under-sink storage unit. Quality towels, liquid hand-wash and lotion. The second bathroom is located on the lower ground floor.
The living-room is open plan with a Chesterfield sofa and two comfy chairs. From the living-room there is a double door leading to the garden. The dining area is open plan with the lounge and kitchen the dining table can easily seat 10 people.
From the entrance hall on the upper ground floor there is access via a further spiral stairs to the lower ground floor which has a completely re-designed space which forms a flat with an additional fully fitted kitchen and the second bathroom in the house.
The whole house is decorated and equipped to a high standard.
The lower ground floor flat/space is heated by underfloor heating controlled with wall-mounted dials.
The flat can also be entered from outside, down steps through an entrance on the west side of the house. This door leads to a tiled hallway.
The second kitchen is fitted with electric hob and oven, fridge and microwave. There is coffee maker and all main kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery.
The second bathroom has a large walk in rain shower, fully tiled with a wide sink and large mirror.
The lower ground floor bedroom (bedroom 4) has a queen sized comfortable double bed.
The open plan lounge space has a sofa bed which converts to a double bed, comfortably sleeping two adults. The lounge is fitted with a 50inch smart TV and two tall wardrobe units with hangers and drawers to accommodate your clothing and luggage.
The lower ground flat has the same wooden flooring throughout as upper floors and tiles in kitchen and bathroom.
On the lower-ground floor there is a washroom equipped with a washing machine and a fold-out washing line for hanging clothes. The washroom has an storage space for luggage.
Guest access
Access to the house is through the main front door on the upper ground floor.
The upper ground floor is all in an open plan space. A winding staircase lit by a large stain glass window takes you to the upper floor which has three bedrooms and a bathroom.
There is access through the hallway on the main floor leading down stairs to the lower ground floor flat and the the wash room in case you have some washing to do.
There is off-street parking for one car (in front of the garage) and plenty of free parking on the streets next to the house.
We can arrange for our local caretaker can meet you and assist further should you need something specific.
Local amenities .
10 minutes walk down to the seafront, 15-20 min walk to Öskjuhlíð where you can see all over Reykjavik and further.
The flat is less than 5 minutes walk from the local grocery shop, pharmacy and the central bus station.
The flat is less that 3 minutes walk to an indoor&outdoor swimming pool and hot tub spa "Sundhöll Reykjavik". This is our local swimming pool and spa, great for kids - we definitely recommend going to these swimming baths!
Interaction
We operate self-check-in with good instructions (so our guests say). Therefore early/late check-ins are welcomed (early check-in dependent on if departing guests are checking out the same morning).
Keys will be accessed through a security box with an access code, at the property.

Neighbourhood overview
A newly, totally refurbished townhouse (Funkis architecture) with off street parking house in Reykjavik, located in a quiet residential area, yet less than 5 minutes walk from the main shopping street in Reykjavik with numerous restaurants, bars and shops. Reykavik's main museums, galleries and harbour (in case you want to go whale watching) are all within 10-15 minutes walk. Our favourite seafood restaurant, Lækjabrekka is only about 15 minutes strole down the main shopping street. There is 10 minutes walk down to the seafront, 15-20 min walk to Öskjuhlíð where you can see all over Reykjavik and further. The flat is less than 5 minutes walk from the local grocery shop (open 24 hours), pharmacy and the central city-bus station. The house is about 3 minutes walk to an indoor swimming pool (Sundhöllin). There is 3 minutes walk to one of Reykjavik´s central parks with play areas for children and the park houses, a great café and one of Reykjavik´s main art museums (Kjarvalstaðir). The landmark Church (shown on many posters for Reykjavik), Hallgrímskirkja, the tallest building in Reykjavik is less than 5 minutes walk from the house and can be easily seen from the house.
Getting around
The Central Bus station (BSI) in Reykjavik serving transport to Keflavik Airport is a 10 minutes walk from the house. Taking the Flybus+option at Keflavik Airport you can ask for a drop off at Reykjavik Hostel Village which is less than a 1 minute walk to our house. The main feature of the location is that you can walk to majority of Reykjavik´s sights, cafés , restaurants, museums and shopping within 5 to 10 minutes. The Central Reykjavik City-Bus Station at "Hlemmur" is less than 5 minutes walk. The City-Buses take you out and about Reykjavik City and Greater Reykjavik.
Other things to note
Please be respectful of our neighbors in the next door house and avoid making noise or playing loud music, especially after 11pm and before 9am.
