The hostel was terrible. I met lovely people there, but that was the only good thing about the stay at that hostel. The bathrooms and washrooms are shared - which is terrible because it was dirty all the time; the kitchen was hardly cleaned and the surfaces were really sticky and dirty. The beds were very creaky, which disturbed all flatmates throughout the night. There was constant construction noise from downstairs. There was no proper hygiene and standards maintained; even the floors at the corridors and rooms were frequently just sticky.

I stayed at Kex Hostel for one day and it was amazing. I had to take a taxi very urgently to get to the airport, and the man at the front desk was very helpful! He explained my situation to the taxi driver so I was listed as a priority rider, and was able to get to the airport just in time. Would like to stay here next time when I visit Reykjavik :)

Great solo stay
The building is undergoing a little construction, so was a little difficult to locate and initially a little off putting. However, staff are friendly, facilities are clean and the rooms are comfortable. Great solo stay at a good price! Would stay here again.

I came in on a Friday evening, it’s under extensive renovation, dark rooms and relatively pack bunk beds about at least 20, and didn’t notice a vent, I just figured out where are the toilets and showers are. All the front desk said was “ it’s the door before the kitchen at the end of the hallway.”Other than that, it’s relatively inexpensive and quieter on Sundays. Decent parking garage nearby. I think it’s relatively safe anrea and close walk to the cathedral, the bay and the bus stop are steps away. Ample of restaurants.

Great location!
Pana at the front desk, when I checked in, was an absolute dear and stored my luggage for me and gave me recommendations to go see a museum quite close by until it was time to Check-in. I enjoyed very much! I was on the 4th floor, but each floor has its own kitchen and refrigerator, and that was a great help as I traveled by myself and like to get my own food. Love the location and was able to walk over to the Bay and it's only like 3 blocks to the Sun Voyager, and to all of the bus stops that I needed to get to my tours. I would highly recommend this Hostel. It was under construction so there was no bar or restaurant while I was there but it was still absolutely a great experience and I would recommend it.

It's now under construction, most of the common areas are not available and it's noisy. During the 6 days I stayed there, one day there was no water and one night there was no electricity. Met nice people there but the current situation is not pleasant.

Unfortunately, the property was under major renovation when i was there. The walls are very thin and it was just too noisy to enjoy my stay. The 24 hour check in was extremely convenient as i got into the propert at 0030, but would have enjoyed sleeping later than 0500 after a long day of travel.

KEX was clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the harbor and within easy walking distance from downtown shopping and dining venues. We stayed while they were under construction but the construction machinery didn't start until after normal breakfast hours so all was OK. Looking forward to seeing KEX once all the renovations are complete.

Dear Hostel Management, I hope this message finds you well. My friend and I recently stayed at your hostel, having booked over a month ago based on a recommendation from a previous guest. We were particularly excited about the opportunity to enjoy the hostel's social atmosphere, including the bar and nightlife, which played a significant role in our decision to stay. However, upon our arrival on 9/20, we were disappointed to discover that the hostel is undergoing major construction and that the bar and restaurant facilities were closed. Unfortunately, this crucial information was not communicated to us in advance, and it significantly impacted our experience. We had anticipated a lively, social environment but instead found limited options due to the construction.

first time in a hostel. pros: 24/7 front desk made me feel safe, they’re friendly. good location, walkable about 10-15 minutes to downtown reykjavík! lots of common areas to enjoy. bunk felt private with a lamp, shelf, small storage. hung my blanket up for more privacy (i was on the bottom bunk) cons: property/bathroom did not feel very clean. i’d bring shower shoes and extra bedding if i were to come back. also towels are $7 USD for a warning.

Got a shared-room bunk bed. They had privacy curtains to block light which was nice. There was road work being done right in front of the hostel (Sept 2024) so it wasn’t that quiet. Also that made finding P3 parking a bit more challenging because I had to find somewhere else. Do note that it’s pretty barebones in terms of what is provided, no soap/shampoo in the showers, no towel provided. The price is right, so I’m not counting that as a negative, but more something to keep in mind. The common area was really nice, they put a lot of effort into making it cozy.
