Loved that it was in downtown. Room was spacious and a lot bigger than anticipated. Only complaint is they don’t answer their phones. You have to text them. Trust me I have checked different times thinking that it was done being broken in June but that’s not the case. Also the front desk gentleman seemed like he hated his job. Not very friendly and welcoming at all. Seemed more annoyed than anything even though I only had time to check in after arriving and pay for the room. Again great place. Service wasn’t.

The front desk agent Grace was very helpful and suggested restaurants around the area to eat. She let me know via text when my room was ready and placed my bags in the room while I grabbed food from the near by restaurant Murphys. She also shared how to walk over to Brown University since I was waiting for my husband and son to arrive so I could check out the campus before they got in town

Our room did not have air conditioning, and there were stains on the linens. Hotel is dated and leaves much to be desired.

We had a great stay at the Dean hotel. The front staff was welcoming and helped us figure out parking. It’s located in a safe area downtown. The hotel was extremely clean and had great air-conditioning.

I would probably stay here again - the big plusses are the location (center of downtown), the room was large and clean, and the bed was very very comfortable - and that is at the top of my list! However, there were some small annoyances that added up. The wifi (included) was pretty terrible, we could not use it at all. Might be connected to the router that was just dangling from a cord on the wall in our hallway lol. The shower was very hard to use with a curtain that didn't really keep the water in - each time we used it our bathroom was flooded, and ther were no extra towels to mop up. The coffee bar in the lobby (coffee for purchase) was not open the last day we were there, and there was no other coffee available. There was no trashcan in the room, and our garbage piled up. These are all minor things but by the end of our stay we felt a bit underwhelmed by the experience. The staff in general was very pleasant and friendly!

I do feel that The Dean is overpriced; however, the staff was excellent. Very friendly, very helpful, polite. They gave me vouchers for drinks at their bar for my two night stay. I don’t really drink alcohol so it’s nice that you could choose coffee in the morning. The decor was lovely. Not sure if it’s every room, but my room did not have a fridge which was disappointing. I would def stay here again. The staff made my visit worth it.

The DEAN is a good hotel in downtown Providence. Go here if you enjoy staying in a smaller hotel. The hotel is in a historic building, adding some extra charm. The room was relatively small, but more than big enough for me, traveling solo. The hotel should improve three things. First being the WIFI, this is unusable, very slow and often providing no internet connection. Second, the duvets have seen better days, and the filling is lumping together, which is not the most comfortable. Lastly, the hotel uses wind frame mounted airconditioning units, these are loud, and do not allow you to close the window fully. This is annoying, as some terraces are located close to the hotel which kept me awake for one night during my stay.

Hotel had a great vibe. We only stayed for one night. Here's what we liked: the large bathroom with walk-in shower; the generously-sized pillows; functioning air conditioner; breakfast options. Overall, the room was a nice size and had mostly what we needed. Staff were super welcoming and helpful with parking recommendations and information. Excellent rating for the staff here. We didn't like: the bed frame was too large for the bed, so we kept hitting our legs on it; bedroom floor was sticky; only one body washcloth in the bathroom for two guests; the gap between the headboard and bed; old-timey elevator was cute, but small and difficult to open, even for two strong, young people -- would not be ideal for vacationers with a lot of luggage; boxed water in the room tasted gross; there was a stain on the chair in the bedroom; poor bathroom ventilation (would not pass the tissue test). We would have appreciated a small refrigerator in the room.

Sticky floors, just an overall disappointing stay
We were surprised that this is a 4-star hotel (according to Google maps) b/c it certainly lacks a lot of amenities and comfort of one. 1st issue: the very tiny dark elevator. After check-in, we went to use it; after waiting a while, we were told it had to be fixed & to use the stairs instead. We walked our luggage up 4 floors. Not a big deal since we are able-bodied, but not an ideal situation either. One elevator w/ an old-school manual door serviced the entire hotel. We booked the Guardian Suite which looked nice, clean, & spacious in the photos. But when we stepped into the room, we immediately noticed how sticky the dark wooden floors are. It was dive bar-level sticky, which was so gross. We wish we had disposable house slippers w/ us. There are layers of dust on the black windowsills. Room is not really a suite, it’s holds a bed with a little seating area w/ a couch. The dark fabric was covered w/ tiny white debris & what looked like dog/cat hair. The seating area had only one small overhead light that was very dim. The bathroom & shower are tiny; there’s no space to put your own toiletries in the shower. There’s a dark haunting portrait that looked right at you when you exited the bathroom. There’s no phone(!), in-room safe, mini-fridge, or even a closet in this 4-star hotel “suite.” At least the AC worked. The speakeasy-bar is nice & much cleaner than our room. Glad it was a short stay. The concierge who checked us out was aloof. We couldn’t wait to leave.
