The hotel really was amazing and I wanted to give it a full 5 stars; however, there were a couple of things that just made it so I couldn't do that. The biggest issue I ran into was the mattress. I have slept on pull out sofa beds that were more comfortable. The mattress was thin and old. It sagged horribly in the middle where people have slept for years. Also, there is a giant hole in the support where you almost feel like you are going to fall through. It was a Queen size bed, so I am not sure why there were 2 separate box springs. The discomfort of the bed almost made me want to change hotels during the course of my trip. I couldn't get a good night sleep and was in pain every morning. Housekeeping only showed up twice during my week stay. This caused me to have to go downstairs and ask for toilet paper twice because it wasn't refilled. When they did refill it, there was only one roll. Lastly, the breakfast is amazing except for the eggs. Every single morning they put out a pan of eggs that wasn't even cooked. Literally, egg "juice" rolling around a pan while it sits on a heater.
Other than these issues, the hotel is amazing. It's clean. The staff are the best. The breakfast, if you don't want eggs, is otherwise fantastic. I wish I could say I would stay there again, but the issues around the bed and mattress make me want to look elsewhere during my next visit to Porto Alegre.
