Let’s be clear, Casa da Matriz is nothing more than a very, very expensive hostel, and it’s barely that. There is no lobby, there is no one on site if you have a problem. Here is where you take the risk. As there is no one on site there is a piece of paper with two numbers to call if you have a problem. We soon realized there was no hot water and called one of the numbers. We were told someone would be by to fix the water within 10 minutes. An hour later no one had stopped by. I called both numbers for the next 20 minutes, no one answered. It would be 2 DAY, YES, TWO DAYS before we would have hot water.
Let’s return to the point that again, this “hotel” is most certainly not a hotel, it’s a hostel. The walls are paper thin and you hear EVERYTHING that is going on. In fine hostel fashion there is an extra bed stored in the room that was not requested and a closet full of broken hangers and pillows without pillow cases. The bathroom door doesn’t open all the way because it hits the sink and the toilet doesn’t stop running until you go and physically lift the lid off the toilet and mettle with the plug. The bed is like sleeping on a pyramid, for some reason the middle protrudes and drops along the sides.
Finally, I would add that I sent two messages to the administration to explain to them what happened and how inappropriate I found it to pay so much for a 2 days without hot water. Both messages were completely ignored. So stay here at your own risk.
